TVHeadEnd won't finish scanning muxes

Added by Jon Compton over 11 years ago

Longish intro. After much trial and error I had managed to get TVHeadend working on my system. What I have are XBMCbuntu appliances on each of my TVs, and an Ubunutu Linux 12.4 file server running TVheadend as the backend PVR on the network. I'm using an ATSC Antenna attached to a HD Homerun dual ATSC tuner.

As mentioned, I had everything working by following your detailed instructions. Then two things happened. The first is that I reserved the file-server IP on the router, the second was that the road in front of my house was regraded and they accidentally cut my Internet connection. These two things happened at virtually the same time. (yes, I have rebooted the server)

Since those occurrences, I've had a string of failures. The first was XBMC appliances being unable to connect to TVheadend PVR service (even though my internal home network was intact). TVheadend continuously shut itself down on the file server despite my efforts, until Internet service was restored 3 days later. Once service was reactivated, the XBMC appliances began throwing a new error, that TVheadend could not make any connections.

I went to the file server to investigate. I could watch TV on the file server using the HD Homerun utility, but could not on the TVHeadend interface. Upon further investigation, TVheadend appeared to be trying to do initial scans on the Muxes again. However, it constantly would get stuck somewhere in the process.

At this point I've tried:

Updating TVheadend to the newest version
Deleting all the muxes
Deleting all the mapped channels

All to no avail. TVheadend gets stuck someplace in the middle of the scan. I've left it for periods of over 12 hours to no avail. (The last 3 times I've tried it's gotten stuck at mux 27, but previous to that it was different numbers).

I've attached a screen grab if it's of any use. Could really use some help here.

Additionally, it finds no services.

Yes, I went through that post and it didn't help. However, after purging the entire application then reinstalling the newest deb, it worked fine. Except now the grabber doesn't work and the tv_grab_na-dd --configure command no longer works. Researching in these forums it seems the grabber portion has been changed, but I can't seem to get a straight instruction for how to configure the newest version to work with schedulesdirect xml file.

UPDATE: For some reason xmltv disappeared from the box, presumably during the purge of the earlier TVheadend install, but hard to see how that's possible. Regardless, got it reinstalled, re-ran tv_grab_na-dd --configure, setup the the grabber in TVheadend, and now it won't complete scanning the muxes again. In fact, when it gets stuck, TVheadend can't be stopped or restarted either, and if you try, the web interface no longer works. This is really a frustrating experience.
