[Feature Request] Ability to change defaullt adapter?

Added by Scott Cove almost 12 years ago

Hi there guys,

Firstly, let me say that I absolutely love tvheadend, and have been using it for a couple of years now. Just recently I have come across a new connexant based DVB adapter that i am wanting to use in conjunction with my old SAA7134. The problem i am having is that because the Gigabyte (SAA4134) is mounted as adapter0 and the new one as adapter1 with both pointing at the same DVB-T muxes and services, when xbmc (or any client for that matter) connects, it offers adapter0 first.

This probably wouldn't be too much of a problem except that the Gigabyte is plagued by what i would describe as an interlacing haze, lines that are slightly out of sync of each other to the point that scrolling text on the screen is practically unreadable, so i would much rather use the winfast first, and the Gigabyte only when the winfast is in use on another mux.

Is there any way (other than fiddling around with udev, that I can't seem to figure out how to use with the entire /dev/adapter? and /dev/v4l? folders) that a feature of which adapter is offered first could be added to tvheadend, or is there a config file somewhere that i can edit to permanently change the adapter that is offered to clients first by default?

Thanks,
Scott.

You can change the priority of the adapters. Have a look at Configuration -> TV adapters, select your adapter and raise the priority of the one you don't want to use.

This one confused me a bit at first (basically I wanted to demote my satellite card as it's a bit rubbish), the behaviour of having some tuners on zero and others numbered didn't seam to be logical to me. What I found easiest was to set the "Extra Priority" on all adaptors as follows:-

5 = Use me first
10 = Use me second
15 = Use me third
20 = Use me fouth
999 = I'm no longer here so ignore me (also deleted all multiplexes)

(You could easily use 1,2,3 etc but I like 5's as it makes sliding a new one in later on easier).

One thing to mention that TVHeadend doesn't do which my STB does - if you are recording a programme on adaptor 5, and watching on adaptor 10 when the recording ends the show you are watching stays on adaptor 10 - only when you change channel does it switch to 5. The advantage of this is that your live viewing isn't interrupted, but this does mean to get to the better tuner when it comes free you'll have to toggle channels. The major disadvantage of this is that if tuner 10 has access to some channels tuner 5 doesn't and tuner 10 records a channel then you can't record them until the channel change either.

Thanks guys,

I dont know how i missed the priority down the bottom! I found another seeming workaround anyway.. in /etc/defaults/tvheadend I have put 1,0 in the adapters section, and it now seems to be loading them in that order.

If that stops working, i will have to set priorities :)

Thanks again,
Scott
