Can't play through webgui
Added by John Nevill about 12 years ago
I am able to get a handful of local channels working fine using xbmc as a front end, but when I attempt to play from the webgui (both from the EPG, as well as the "TV Adapters" tab) VLC is loaded but it just sits there and spins. I am using tvheadend 3.2. Any ideas?

Look at the log, at the bottom of the webui, if you get a --401 error,
try to eneable user * password * it worked for me.
Thinke there is somting wrong in the user system.
when pushing play fro webui the vlc player does not provide user and password for playing the strm.

THAT ROCKS! Thank you. Now I just need to figure out which port tvheadend is setting for the VLC feed and I can tunnel some tv through SSH. What fun!
[EDIT] port 9981 is the winner. Little choppy through the tunnel, but I'm getting TV at work.

The only thing you have to remember now is that you're running open,
no password required, i would do a port forward, from two unusal ports 47821 to 9981 (just an example)
Hop they can fix the user problem with live streaming to webui :-)
The ports you have to port is 9981 and 9982.
Good luck

Not a problem there. Port forwarding is done through an SSH tunnel, so someone would have to have a server key to get in to the home network and steal my precious television.
