Sat>IP Server Scan Issues
Added by Alex May 11 months ago
Hi, I've got a Schwaiger MS41IP Sat IP unit (never heard of the make until recently).
Tvheadend doesn't seem to be able to scan with this and if it does it's with sporadic results. DVB-S and no DVB-S2 mixes generally. Think its hardware is similar to an TSS400 and EXIP 414 so wondered if anyone with these could offer any insight?
I have tried scanning with other software and it's equally as unsuccessful. I'm using a multi switch and an EXIP 418 with Unicable and works flawlessly so know the 'input' is ok. Unsure if the device is faulty.
Thanks in advance.

Try using a simple LNB to sat/ip tuner connection without any switches and try a fresh scan. It sounds like your LNB to sat/ip tuner connection may be the problem. What tuner does TVH report in the tuner setup.

I hear you on this. I have a wideband LNB so unfortunately not completely possible.
What I have tried is setting the unit to standard LNB and just using one input from the switch and I do get the same scan results. I’ve also tried different versions of tvh to see if that would help and no joy.
I’m not pointing the finger at TVHeadend as the issue, just want sure where the best place to post a question like this!
Not really sure what to try now! Thanks

You could ask the manufacturer if they are willing to donate a unit for testing and fixing. That way they can be sure that Tvheadend works properly with the device.
Other than that, you can try with other software like DVBViewer to check if it's an issue only with Tvheadend or with other software aswell.

I asked the manufacturer if they could suggest anything which would be creating this issue and any idea of any recommended tvheadend settings based on the issues I was describing.
They simply said “ We are not aware of the other problems you describe.”
I will ask about a replacement unit however I have a feeling I know what they’ll say given the age and fashion of sat>ip units!
Thanks again

Here’s a perfectly good Sat/IP tuner which works perfectly with TVH. https://telestar.de/en/produkt/digibit-twin/
Chances are that the manufacturer you dealt with knows nothing about TVH and even less about Linux.
Is there any recommended application that their tuner would actually work on. Reading this thread doesn’t inspire any confidence https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/21050

I will try them again. Yes indeed the twin is probably the most reliable solution in hindsight I did have one a long time ago.

I reinstalled the latest firmware and found while streaming a channel it’s seems to scan ok!
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Jonas Lang 10 months ago
So you were missing the correct manufacturer’s firmware from the tuner which prevented TVH from recognising the tuner. Is that correct.
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Alex May 10 months ago
Not sure if it was missing but reinstalling it helped - via USB recovery style. But the scanning only seems to work when it's already doing something then it successfully scans all muxes.

When streaming some channels I do often get errors like;
"Continuity counter error (total 1)"
"H264 @ #5000 Continuity counter error (total 1)"
"tbl-base: pmt: 10788V in DVB-S Astra: invalid checksum (len 250, errors 1)"
"tbl-pass: pass-pmt: -: invalid checksum (len 250, errors 1)"
Are these usual/ok?

What profile do you use to stream TVH. I find that pass through as .ts streams to a front end client works best
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Alex May 10 months ago
Yeah using the passthrough profile in it's default values

Is there any WiFi involved in your setup or is it all wired. What’s the quality of the signal from your dish to your tuner like. What does the signal show up in the Status tab
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Alex May 10 months ago
I'm actually testing this with my laptop on VLC which is currently on WiFi, usually stream to TVs with wired Apple TVs. I'm just checking this playlist of channels through. Just odd seeing the log with
TSID change detected - old 0814 (2068), new 07f9 (2041)
Unsure what the issue is when a scan has been recently made.
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Jonas Lang 10 months ago
I can’t help you with playlists. Don’t use them. I purely use DVBS/S2 via satellite dish direct to tuner and streamed to client.
Might be worth reading this thread https://tvheadend.org/boards/14/topics/6443
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Alex May 10 months ago
The channels playlist I’m using on Tvheadend. How do you tune ‘direct to tuner’? Are you saying you don’t use Tvheadend?
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Jonas Lang 10 months ago
Yes I use TVH. Just follow the Wizard instructions for creating a network for DVBS, supply a predefined mux list for the satellite you are tuning to, select scan and once it completes map the services that were found. You’ll have all your available channels and no playlists involved there.
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Alex May 10 months ago
Sorry - when it maps you’re able to link to an m3u file, the ‘channels’. I see that as a playlist and sounds like what you’re using? Or have I misinterpreted what you’ve said?
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Jonas Lang 10 months ago
Why would I need a playlist when I have direct access to the individual channels. As an example I’d use Kodi PVR as my client which would import all my channels into Kodi for Live TV. Playlists are usually deployed in an IPTV setup.
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Alex May 10 months ago
Perhaps there’s a Kodi system I’m not aware of. However, if you map channels you can access them (like I have via VLC) using http://ip:9981/playlist/channels.m3u
RE: Sat>IP Server Scan Issues - Added by Jonas Lang 10 months ago
Ok I see what you’re doing now. I don’t need to create a playlist to get them out to the client. I just need to supply an address and port number to Kodi PVR Live TV and can access them like you would on a set top box receiver. Might be worth your while checking out Kodi here
