TVHeadend CI+ module
Added by s. steve 11 months ago
Hí,
I use Tvheadend 4.3-2185~g0da7fc0b7 version with DD Cine v7 tuners for DIGI Hungary DVB-C cable tv channels.
Some channel encrypted Irdeto and provider provide for this channels SMIT Digi Smart CAM CI+ HD modul for my tv. I'd like use this CI+ module with tvheadend.
Is this even possible?
TVHeadend supports this CI+ module and decryption?
If yes, how can I do it? Do I need to get any hardware for this?
Thank you for help

Yes, this should be possible but it won't be easy. Inside the CI module, there should be a SmartCard (looks kind of like a credit card) which you take out.
Next, you need to buy a SmartCard-reader. Everyone recommends Easymouse but those are discontinued so you have to find an alternative. I have a "Stinger Dual USB" which was a bit difficult to setup. The important thing is, that you need to be able to use it under Linux (or whatever operating system you're using).
Once that is set up, you can install OSCAM (https://fleet.linuxserver.io/image?name=linuxserver/oscam) which is a software that can interact with the SmartCard. For OSCAM to work, you need to have the so-called "boxkeys" (rsa keys for your card). This is the step that makes or breaks it. If your type card has been "cracked", the boxkeys will be leaked somewhere. Some cards (like Sky) have special mechanisms which make it virtually impossible to "crack" them. If this is the case, you can't use the card with TVHeadend.
If you manage to setup OSCAM, you can just add your OSCAM server in TVHeadend under "Configuration > CAs" and you'll be able to play encrypted channels.
The site https://www.digital-eliteboard.com is very helpful when it comes to this topic, but the forum is German and most discussions are Germany-specific.
If you have further question, feel free to ask, but I can't promise I'll know the answer.

You’re straying into dangerous territory here. The forum do not encourage any discussion on the subject of illegal decryption of paid subscription TV services.

Sorry, I was assuming that s. steve was acting with good intentions. I do of course not encourage illegal cardsharing.

Sorry, I didn't mean to inquire about illegal activity. I thought that if I received a card from the service provider, I could use it with tvheadend. According to them, even if it is technically possible, it is not a legal solution either.
I note that this is not a buck card, but a CI+ module, the service provider's data is entered in the memory area, so it can only be plugged into the CI slot...
The service provider only said that the CI+ module only works in set top boxes and TVs. Thanks for the comments, now I understand the essence of the problem.
Thank you for your help.
