Request for help obtaining sample EPG data from various countries

Added by Delta Mike Charlie about 1 year ago

I'm looking for DVB-T/C/S users outside of Australia who are willing to volunteer to send me copies of their TVH log files following an 'OTA EPG' grab.

I'm working on a new feature to add parental rating labels to TVH.

The new feature is coming along well, however, I would like to be able to validate my methods against some real-world data from other countries just to be on the safe side.

EPG data from channels, probably in Europe but also possibly Asia or Africa, that service multiple countries would be of particular interest. However, general samples from a number of countries would also be very useful too.

If you are interested in helping me, simply go into your TVH debugging window and make note of your existing settings so that you can reinstate them afterwards. Enable logging as illustrated.

Launch your OTA EPG grabber. You can see the grabbing in progress from the 'Status' window. Once there are no more grabbing connections in the status screen, go back into the debugging screen and restore your original settings. Take the log file and ZIP it because it could be quite large.

Respond to this thread, attaching your ZIP file, stating your Country (and region if you feel safe sharing that).

Thanks in advance.

Here is a dump from UK Freeview (DVB-T) and Freesat (DVB-S). The uncompressed size is 710Mb.

Dave Pickles - A follow-up question if I may:

In your TV's (not TVH's) EPG, do you ever see parental rating codes like 'U', 'PG', '12', '12A', '15', '18' or 'R18' displayed?

I watch TV through TVH, I don't have a terrestrial or satellite aerial connected.

According to ETSI 300 468 there is a Parental Rating descriptor which should contain this information, however I don't see it when eyeballing the EIT via DVBInspector. I suspect parental rating is not used at all in the UK.

I'm curious how you do that? Multiple connections to the broadcast streaming services? FWIW, I just use a terrestrial antenna.

My TVH has terrestrial and satellite tuners attached, and I watch live TV and recordings using Kodi with the TVH plugin.

I'm being exceptionally stupid today, so please forgive me, but how do you receive signals through terrestrial and satellite tuners without antennae?

I suspect that you are right, I am also unable to find the parental_rating_descriptor for both the Freeview and Freesat services in your log file, hence my question. The absence of this descriptor may also explain how the following bug came about.

https://tvheadend.org/issues/6284

Perhaps the original author lived in a region that did not use the descriptor and was unable to test it on live data.

A friend who lives in Austria sent me an EIT dump from some satellite services off a Topfield PVR. The examples from Germany seem to use the descriptor as intended, however, the French samples use 'broadcaster-defined' values and the Spanish samples are all 'Undefined'.

Perhaps the use of the parental rating descriptor globally is not as common as I imagined.

Europe (DVB-C) (stopped after size > 400MB):

dmc.zip (51.6 MB) dmc.zip

Ukn Unknown - Thank you very much for your help. Your contribution is appreciated.

Some findings:

It seems that some broadcasters use the 'ISO-3166 Alpha-2' country code rather than the 'ISO-3166 Alpha-3' in the parental rating descriptor.

Some programmes also have titles/descriptions in two different languages (from 2 countries). However, these programmes only have one parental rating and it always indicates an age of 18. When I search for these programmes on the Internet, they seemed to be adult-oriented programmes thus explaining the 18+ rating. No other programmes seem to have a parental rating.
