How to edit RumsterForest list of muxes

Added by Arthur Scroggins over 1 year ago

This question has probably been answered loads of times and I could find it if I knew the right search string to put in.

I'm on the RumsterForest transmitter and its list of muxes changed with (I think) the digital changeover. Anyway there are 8 muxes which no longer exist and I have to add the three new ones in. I can do that but I'd like to be able to edit the list so when I reinstall TVHeadend again I don't have to go through the process again. I'm having to do it a fair number of times because I still in the process of changing to RPi4 from RPi3.

Presumably when you reinstall Tvheadend you are going through the Setup Wizard each time? That will download the list of muxes for your transmitter which is likely out-of-date.

The Tvheadend configuration is stored in /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/ You could save that directory structure once you have the correct muxes and replace it if you need to reinstall (before restarting Tvheadend).

Delete you current network, create a new one and at the point where you are asked about predefined muxes just select Cancel. You can then add one active mux, run a scan and TVH will find any other active muxes. Ensure scan option is set for New Muxes Only. That will clear out any inactive unwanted muxes.

I've sort of accomplished what I want by disabling unwanted muxes etc.

I've just run a LibreElec backup so that should do essentially what you suggest, and yes the list of muxes is out of date <G>

I saw that suggestion a while back but haven't tried it yet. What concerns me is why the out of date ones keep coming back. I'd be much happier if I could delete them and they'd stay deleted.

If you try what I suggested those unwanted muxes will disappear for good. You won’t have used the predefined muxes so TVH will only find the active muxes.

I'm recording rugby for a friend so can't try today so I'll give it a go tomorrow. I'd still like to be able to edit the list so that if I have to totally reinstall TVHeadend its sorted.

The "correct" fix is to submit a Pull Request to https://github.com/tvheadend/dtv-scan-tables with the correct list of muxes for the transmitter. However that hasn't been updated for three months and there are 8 PRs already outstanding.

On the basis of what you've posted I think I'll use the unoffical, incorrect method.

There seems to be heavy emphasis placed on transcoding in any of the recent TVH builds and unfortunately other aspects of TVH that may need attention have taken a back seat. My transcoding is all done at the client end so while I do keep pace with the commits they are of very little value to me.

I’m not a code developer/maintainer therefore I’m not best placed to criticise anyone and their efforts but to anyone out there who is and is tinkering with TVH you may be able to look at this issue with a view to resolving it.

Personally I don’t use the Wizard as all my configuration is done manually but I just ran it recently to see if I could help in this instance. I’d recommend others to go the manual configuration route after installation too. Out of date predefined muxes are causing more problems than they resolve.
