To try to use TVHE as a tuning backend for Plex: help needed with some breakage
Added by B Majewski over 1 year ago
A tuner I have is not recognised by Plex but is by TVHeadEnd; a work-around I found was to use tvhProxy to get Plex to use TVHE as a simulated HDHomeRun and consequently have Plex get access to that tuner.
FWIW, I'm running TVHE and Plex server on the same box. Up to now, they coexisted peacefully and didn't trip each other as far as I could tell.
So I installed the "original" version of tvhProxy (the one by "jkaberg") and, skipping a few steps for the sake of brievity, Plex saw this new tuner with the channels provided by TVHE; it then got the EPG for it and it looked as if everything was working.
Afterwards, I tried to view live TV via Plex: unknown error. Check with TVHE: same. Not sure how this can be the case, as TVHE is "upstream" tvhProxy.
Digging around to see what could cause this, I discovered there is a more recent version of tvhProxy, maintained by chkuendig (https://github.com/chkuendig/tvhProxy), as well as a mention that the "original" tvhProxy doesn't work well with current Plex versions. Of course.
Going with the low-hanging fruit first, the solution appears to be a simple swap of tvhP versions, but I'm not sure how to go about with this. I'm not a Python jockey, though I can follow instructions.
How do I remove the old version and install the new?
