epggrab status "bad", high BER, tvh restarting

Added by Kai Schwarz over 1 year ago

Hi all,

My Setup:
  • TV Adapter 1: DD Cine S2 v6.5
  • TV Adapter 2: DD Cine S2 v7

= 4 TV Tuners in TVH

Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS
tvheadend: version 4.3.0~pre+202304020018-0~built202304021717~gita10f7ea44~ubuntu22.04.1
Kodi: latest stable.
PPA: https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/mamarley/tvheadend-git/ubuntu/ jammy main -> not self-compiled though

All tuners are connected to cable.

Issue: I see epggrab running 3 times - 2x with good status and 1x with status "bad".
At that time the underlying adapter of that epggrab has a incredible high BER.
Then TVH restarts. This continues sometimes over 5 to 10 minutes.

Recordings work perfectly fine - haven't noticed issues there.

Any ideas? PS: I am totally new to debugging TVH. I am open to provide anything you need, but I'll need a bit of advice on where to find this / how to provide this.

Thanks so much
Kai

First place I’d start is with your TV Adapters setup. Make sure you have them correctly configured to reflect your tuner setup. Possibly disable one adapter at a time and see if they function correctly independently of each other. It looks suspiciously like some form of tuner conflict but that’s only a guess looking at those attachments.

I think I got this fixed as I checked which Muxes failed regarding EPG Grab.
I then checked them in www on this list: https://de.kingofsat.net/pos-19.2E.php

The ones which errored were listed there as "Occasional Feeds, data or inactive frequency (YYYY-MM-DD)".
Therefore, I deactivated all those muxes and now eppgrab is running smoothly.

Probably those Muxes were imported/added to tvh years ago, but are now considered as "deprecated".
Hopefully this helps others.

No hardware conflice or defect though. Still many Thanks to @Jonas Lang for the feedback - very much appreciated!

Kai

Best to delete any old muxes rather than disable them. In fact in order to keep a clean muxes list it’s best to delete all muxes except one active one and allow TVH discover the rest of the active muxes. This will help speed up the scanning process for complete muxes scan. It also ensures no duplicate muxes/channels will appear. A lot neater setup.

I stumbled over this:
https://github.com/tvheadend/dtv-scan-tables/blob/tvheadend/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E

Is that one a good mux to start with - just in case I want to start from scratch with muxes.
Right now everything is working fine (never change a running system ;-)).

Not updated, there are PR but not applied to repo

Here’s a known active mux on Astra 1 KR 19.2 East

Frequency: 10773 H
22000
3/4
8PSK
DVBS2

Just enter these details into the Networks section of TVH and ensure you have scan set for new muxes only. TVH will discover the remaining active muxes on Astra 19.2. You will then have an up to date list of active muxes only and no duplicates.
