Roll back from TVHeadend 4.3 to 4.2.9 stable
Added by Oliver Desertfield almost 2 years ago
I have running TVHeadend 4.2.9 for about two years now on linux mint 20.1. It went very very well. A few weeks ago I updated to a much more newer version 4.3.0 But since then my pc isn't running as good as before. So now I want to go back to TVH 4.2.9 stable.
Can someone tell me the steps how to do?

This morning I had two timer recordings running.
1. Leon Der Profi from 2:47 to 5:30 A:M
2. Ehrlich Brothers live! Dream & Fly from 6:00 to 8:20 A:M
When both timer recording are done my pc should shut down.
But this morning my pc didn't shut down. Kodi (Kodi is running on the same machine as TVHeadend) told me that the recording "Leon Der Profi" is still running. So I had to shutdown my pc by hand.
Further I found this in my syslog
Nov 27 05:30:00 media-pc tvheadend1040: dvr: "Léon - Der Profi" on "RTLZWEI HD": End of program: Too many data errors
That is another reason why I want to roll back to 4.2.9

How did you originally install TVH. Did you install from a PPA or did you build it yourself.

TVHeadend makes a backup of it's configuration whenever you change version. The config directory is called .hts and is located in the home directory of the user that TVH runs as. By default /home/hts/.hts. You'll see back up files in .hts/tvheadend/backup. For safety sake you can create a copy of the .hts directory and stash it somewhere.
When you down grade TVH will find the config for your previous version and unpack it.
If you didn't save the install package from 4.2.9 the trick maybe trying to find it again to reinstall after you remove 4.3.
Personally I would recommend investigating your signal issue to see why you have so many errors. It would seem your reception is not good enough for an error free lock.
I've been running 4.3 built from git master problem free for many years now. I suspect your problem likely lies elsewhere.

In the summer I had to by a "new" DVB-S2 Dual PCIe Card (because of sure damage). I had a DVBSky S952 for years and it was working well. So I bought the same again but secondhand. This secondhand card seems to have some problems. It seems to produce some data errors. Further: when I tune a vertical transponder then the second tuner doesn't work anymore.
Now I bought a TBS 6902 (not secondhand). I hope this card is working as well and as stable as the DVBSky S952.
With this new card I will test TVH 4.3 in the next weeks. No downgrade for now.
