HD channels keep breaking up when streaming. Pi TV Hat -> TVH
Added by Sean Warner over 2 years ago
Hello,
I've got TVHeadend running on a Pi 4 (4GB Memory). I can view SD channels fine from the EPG tab but if I try to view HD channels they keep breaking up.
Is there some TVH setting I can use to get a stable picture on the HD channels?
I have also tried streaming to VLC running on a separate computer on the same LAN... I don't really know what I'm doing! I read in places that if using VLC from another computer you should use the "PASS" stream profile in TVH. But when I do that nothing appears in VLC. I keep seeing "ffff:192.168.0.24: HTTP/1.0 GET (1) /stream/channelid -- 400" in the TVH Log output.
If I switch the stream profile to the same way it is when it plays in the TVH EPG Tab (WEBTV profile VP8/Vorbis/WEBM) then it does play in VLC but again only SD Channels are stable, HD channels are unwatchable.
I think this might work if I knew the settings to make VLC running on my laptop handle the playing or ?transcoding. Instead I think this is currently being done by the Pi which it is apparently unable to do at least with HD channels? Or such is my understanding which might be all wrong?!
Cheers,
Flex

Problem solved.
I was trying to stream OTA HD channels from TVHeadend to VLC running on another computer running Manjaro. When I tried this on Windows 10 it worked fine.
The issue was "VLC may not stream/play Transport Stream (MPEG-TS) files" https://forum.manjaro.org/t/cant-play-mpeg2-with-vlc/56029/10?u=flexmcmurphy in Manjaro if the ARIB224 library is not installed.
