Editing start/stop time or pre/post-recording padding has no effect
Added by Wild Penguin about 3 years ago
Hi,
I've been having this annoying problem for a long time. First: the EPG can not be relied upon in some rare situations (namely, live sports broadcasts, where the game might go on for 30-120mins longer than it has been scheduled). Hence, I would like to record for a longer time than which is reported in the EPG.
I've tried to do this previously by editing the padding time, but tvheadend does not respect it. It still records according to the DVR recording configuration profile. I've brushed this off as a feature which is badly documented and poor UI design. But I've also tried editing the stop time when using a profile which does not have this set (in which case I would assume they actually should have an effect). But still, the recording is terminated before the (non-profile) padding is applied.
Previously, I've tried to also edit the stop time but that also has no effect.
Is there a way to manually deviate from the stop (and start) time reported by the EPG? Seems like it is in the UI, but it does not work!

Do you have "Use EPG running state" set in Configuration -> Recording -> Digital Video Recorder Profiles?

Hi Dave,
Yes, I have. After posting, I did some additional searches and - as far as I can tell - this is the culprit. If "Use EPG running state" is chosen, the padding and hand-editing start/stop time take no effect. As such, this explains the behavior I'm seeing (unless I'm mistaken; I believe this option is poorly documented).
It is up to the EPG data provider to update the running flag in the EPG data. It seems that they often fail to do so. Also, I've used editing these fields to work around channels, which "chop" an event into several EPG entries (1. period, 2nd period, 3rd period ... which is just bothersome, since it is much more nices to have one recording; and also, the times don't usually match the actual end(s) of periods).
Overall, I think this is an user error, but I also think the current UI is extremely counter-intuitive. There should be some notification that editing the times (or padding) will have no effect since the option is selected?
