Beginners Questions...

Added by joi sey over 12 years ago

Hello, I'm ready to oder components for my tvheadend system and have a couple of questions:

- Can I run tvheadend on a linux virtualized on a xen server?

- I'm looking at digital-device DVB-S2 tuner-cards (4 Tuners): If i want to record and stream lets say 4 HD progs each, do I need a really fast cpu?

- I'd like to save data on a freenas NAS connected via iSCSI. Works?

Thanks!

Yes if your dvb tuners can be used inside the xen virtual server then there is no problem.

You only need a fast CPU for decoding the streams but not an extremely fast top of the range CPU. Decoding 4 HD streams at the same time can easily be done on a i3 I think.

Tvheadend saves it's data to a recording directory. If you can mount a remote file system and make it available on the local machine, you can record on it.

Thanks!

Thanks for your quick answers!!!

one more:
I live in austria and I want to watch off hd channels which need a crypto card

what is the best way/practice, to implement a ci/cam solution?? I do have a off digital card and I'll maybe will get a sky card too.....
is tvheadend able to use a ci module attached to my tuner card (CINE S2 V6)

Thanks!

no, tvheadend does not support hardware ci/cam combination at the moment. So you need to use a softcam (OScam is an opensource softcam) and cardreader.

ok...
getting closer

i read a lot about oscam but it seems that it's widely used to "share" cards or not even that....

does anyone please have an installation or link on how i have to setup/configure oscam or similar so that i can use my card in combination with tvheadend??

and: is that smargo reader the one to go? Do i need a CAM module then too? Or is this CI & CAM allinone?

thanks!!!!
