Next release?
Added by T J over 3 years ago
Hello all
Question, any plans for a new release anytime soon?
I mean, there has not been a stable release since 2017 and there is quite a few small fixes here and there that would make life a lot easier with tvheadend.

We need to wait for a new ffmpeg release first now. Then there's a regression with htsp transcoding that should be fixed and then someone needs to find out what is all needed to create a proper release. The new release is supposed to happen "soon", but that's already since quite some time now.

Ok.
After 2019 releases seems to have died out.
Some of the stuff i think is fixed that was really problematic for me was for example when building it yourself to get support for ca modules built you had to link with a library that just barely built and was normally not included (forgot its name, got a bunch of numbers in it)
Had to first hack together a custom version of dvb-apps with the library included that in turn needed so fixes to build well enough.
Also i think there have been some date/time improvements in the UI since i prefer to stick to english and that unfortunately forces 12h clock and there is no way in tvheadend to adjust it and then stumbled on bug #5292 including its fix (2 years old but not in a release yet)

At this point it's probably a good idea to use 4.3, even if it's not called stable. Its pretty stable and better than 4.2 in many ways.

What is tagged as 4.3 is actually from 2017 while 4.2.8 is from 2019 so 4.3 looks older than 4.2 if you go by the commit log only.

You shouldn't use 4.3-0 but the latest 4.3 version (aka latest master). The tagging is necessary for the version numbering to work automatically, dev versions like 4.3 never have releases like the 4.2 versions with 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 and so on (as every new commit would be a new release, tagging those would cause a huge mess).

Is ffmpeg the reason why trying to watch a channel directly from the epg, you know the popup player that is built int, doesnt produce any video, just sound?
