Unable to find any channels from Eutelsat 5w but works with w_scan & W10 [ SOLVED ]
Added by R Maxwell almost 4 years ago
Im having a very strange problem.
I have set up a second dish point at Eutelsat 5w to pick up the free french channels.
I have a small handheld GTMedia tuner linux based I guess and it can see the signal and the transponders with no problem and I can watch the channels. Ive also used DVBDream on windows to view the same channels.
However in TVH, the mux scan shows no signal and the all get marked as FAIL.
This is on my dvbsky card which is normally easy to setup.
Is there a command line I could use to try and scan to see the missing transponders ? Ive no idea how to investigate the problem.

RE: Unable to tune Eutelsat 5w but works from same cable on Windows 10 or from Sat Tuning Device - 3 machines tried now - Added by R Maxwell almost 4 years ago
Ive been doing a lot of tests, and tried 3 different machines.
Always the same result. I can tune into Eutelsat 5w on Windows or on my GTMedia Satellite Tuner but not in TVHeadEnd. To make absolutely sure, I have gone back and put one adaptor onto 28.2E to make sure that the card is working properly and TVHeadend will tune those channels in fine.
I can see that the muxes for Eutelsat 5w are a little odd, as they appear to be just the multistream ones, so I have added in a test mux of 11096 which has the fta channel of Viavosges on it, but there is no input signal..
Im not familiar with linux dvb command line tools, can anyone help me try and track down this problem. ?

Ok Ive managed to get w_scan working. didnt have much luck with scan or dvbscan, not sure why. [ solved : scan uses the legacy tables in /usr/share/dvb-legacy ]
w_scan produces a list of all the channels Ive been seeing on windows ( same machine ) and my gtmedia sattuner.
This is a spare box using the tbs6982
If I try and scan the muxes in tvheadend it doesnt get any input signal
I include a scan of one of the muxes for 11096
w_scan -a1 -f s -s S5W0 > eutelsat.conf
produces this relevant line
VIAVOSGES;EUTELSAT:11096:vC34M5O20S1:S5W:29950:2461=27:2462=fre@3:0:0:426:1375:20400:0
I tried using dvbscan but it returns back to the prompt immediately
dvbscan -adapter 1 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-s/Eutelsat5_5.0W
I have seen more forum entries in the past with a similar problem but no resolution.

Ok, I solved this !
I added my own mux
I had selected DVB-S in the screenshot and not DVB-S2. Once I did that and tuned to 11096 the other muxes appeared
My next challenge is to try and get the multistream working on 11509

I filed an issue it was closed as only using 4.2.8, so I downloaded the latest source and the same problem and solution.
It appears a lot of the muxes in the default list are multistream and thus only work on newer multistream cards. The 11509 mux containing all the fta France mainstream channels is multistream.
It’s not clear where the predefined muxes come from or are stored.

Actually it's pretty clear from the build script, they come from Tvheadend's dtv-scan-tables Repository.

whats a PR ?
Im not very familiar with build scripts so you will forgive my ignorance.
Do you mean you want me to edit
https://github.com/tvheadend/dtv-scan-tables/blob/tvheadend/dvb-s/Atlantic-Bird-3-5.0W
with some changes ?
and commit them back up ?
