Problem with 2 dvb-s2 cards S952 & tbs6982 at the same time

Added by R Maxwell almost 4 years ago

Hi, Im now setting up on a new machine with a second card added.

Debian Buster
dvbsky s952
tbs6982

I've installed both cards and I can get one card working at a time but not both at the same time.
If I put both in, only 1 input on the tbs6982 works and it says no free adaptor if you try to load a second
channel. There's no signal showing on the other cards though this is not clear as the bars are missing.
Ive tried clicking all combinations of enable on the adaptors in setup but only the 1 6982 tuner will work.
If i take the 6982 out both of the 952 spring into life after restarting.

Does anyone have any idea or is this combo not possible.
I tried putting the tbs on msi as in the wiki but no change.

I am going to try and install ubuntu again later as it was a lot less hassle than the Debian which I had to install the latest unstable for.

You might try this kernel...

https://gitlab.com/updatelee/v4l-updatelee

TBS drivers are merged into it.

For Ubuntu these deb packages may work to install this kernel....

This is not a kernel, this is a kernel module, there is a big diference.

Complete kernel. Compile yourself or download package. Install and reboot to this kernel version. Test devices. If it doesn't help reboot to old kernel and remove these kernel package. This does not over write any existing kernel module in current kernel.

Based on linux media tree. Differences stv090x module patched for extended capabilities like RF spectrum scan, modcodes measurement etc. Does not interfere with normal DVB operation. Also TBS drivers are merged at intervals. May not always be up to date. Some additional module or patched module for ATSC device.

I have TBS device and non TBS device all working together.

Use or do not.

Thanks everyone. Its been a bit of a learning curve again. I bought a 2nd TBS card (I know !) and am getting that working first. Too many new pieces in motions, new mobo, new card, new os, new LNB ( unicable), so Im having to work through it bit by bit. I now have unicable working on the TBS in windows so I know how to set that up. Im now reinstalling Debian-10 and then when I have that working I will try and get Tvheadend with unicable working and when that is done I will have a look at making the kernel as described above.

dvbsky card was a lot easier. one file in /lib/firmware and bang! working.

Thanks again for help

Can also try TBS open source tree...

https://github.com/tbsdtv/linux_media

I forget about this one because mainline stv0900 driver is broken for my PROF 7301 so I use updatelee which stv0900 was patched to fix and then eventually PROF 7301 switched to stv090x driver which also works good.

DVB is much easier when drivers are in mainline kernel. Not sure why TBS open source drivers are not allowed. TBS one of very few making DVB-S2 devices now. DVB in Linux should be very simple. Should be easier than windows.
