Simple backup of settings before drive fails
Added by R Maxwell almost 4 years ago
Hi, Im running TVheadend 4.2.7 under Ubuntu 18.04. After many powercuts ( rural france!) my drive is full of errors and I need to clear out and start again as it is failing constantly.
Is there a way I can backup the settings for just TVHeadEnd so I can restore them when I do a fresh install. I cant remember how I set it all up and would rather the easiest solution.
many thanks as ever for such fantastic software.

I find that TVH (I am on 4.3-1915~gfebcf9818~bionic) corrupts its configuration so readily that I have become fairly expert and quick in starting again.
What I do from time to time is to stop it, and make a copy of the files in /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend to a datestamps directory, and then WHEN, not if, it trashes itself, I can go back to a previously working one.
I'll think about writing up how to cherry pick the things you need to restore the wreckage of a broken configuration, particularly the recordings.

Thanks for all the advice. As soon as I went to backup the folder, the disk crashed doh....
Im hoping that I can mount it in some way in a new machine Im making and grab the stuff of it still. We shall see.

I share the /home/hts directory over SMB, so it would be a good way to copy recordings over to a new machine
I have a basic NUC (J5005 version) connected to my TV to play back recordings over the network, as well as use Kodi for live streams.
I also run miniDLNA configured to serve the hts directory for streaming clients
I also set up Apache web server with fancy directory indexing on that directory for easy download on other devices
And finally I use an RSS feed generator to make all recordings available as a podcast.
