Tvheadend "chase play" support
Added by David Yates about 4 years ago
Hi all,
First, some details about my setup:
Tvheadend backend server v4.2.7-44 ~ LibreELEC Tvh-addon v9.0.118, installed on a Wetek play 2 with a DVB-S/S2 tuner module.
The system records onto a NFS share which is hosted on a Freenas NAS.
Front ends - various Kodi V18 (Leia) front ends, including Windows 10 and Android for testing and LibreElec on a Raspberry Pi 4 connected to the TV.
The question I have, is whether TVheadend properly supports "chase play" - in other words, the ability to simultaneously record and play back a tv programme.
I have tried all manner of things to get this working, including numerous Kodi front ends, different streaming profiles for recording (pass, matroska, MP4, H.264, etc).
The system is currently set up to use matroska as this seems the most stable.
What happens is that for SDTV (DVB-S) recordings, playback generally works for anywhere between a few minutes and half an hour before playback freezes and Kodi drops back to the recordings menu.
For HDTV (DVB-S2) programmes the playback either doesn't start at all or stops after a minute or so.
I'm trying to migrate over from a MythTV backend and this is the only thing stopping me from doing so. Chase play has been supported in MythTV for years, so I'd be surprised if TVheadend doesn't - hopefully I'm just doing something wrong!
TIA
Dave.

TVH can record and play from all attached tuners and iptv sources simultaneously

Thanks for the reply. In that case I assume I have a problem with the config on my system.
I'll enable debug logging and see if I can spot anything untoward.

Yes, this works fine for me.
First thing I'd try is to see if you can get it to work with a local disk on the TVH device - i.e. take the NAS out of the equation.
