Installation using snap
Added by Jim Abernathy over 4 years ago
I've installed tvheadend on libreelec 9.2.3 and set it up with no problem. However, I wanted to install it on an x86_64 PC with Ubuntu 20.04 and found I had to use snap to install. I got none of the usual setup questions and when the install was done I just went to 127.0.0.1:9981 and configured as usual. I was able to watch TV from my HDHomerun tuners but I wanted to setup a recording directory on a location on a second hard drive and I keep getting permission issues.
I've tried making the permissions 777, but no luck. I googled for help and I see comments about changing owner of the directory to hts and give the right permissions.
However, I have no hts user in ubuntu. I have user hts for the webpage setup and Kodi, but not at the system level.
What am I missing??
UPDATE: originally the recording path was set at installation to /root/snap/tvheadend/139. If I leave it set to that the recordings are stored there correctly with an owner of 'root'. Since /root is on my boot drive I wanted the recordings on my 1TB HD which is mounted at /home/. Just changing the owner of the recording directory to root and setting the permissions didn't work.

has anyone successfully installed TVH on Ubuntu 20.04 using Snap?

Keep away from Snap, slower, larger, more resources used, need special permission's.
Native is better.

I've found a lot of old instructions on installing from a TVH repository, but I'm looking for how to install it native on a newer OS like Ubuntu 20.04? Do you have a link to that information?
