strange continuity error
Added by Nicolas Ledoux over 4 years ago
Hello,
I'm new to Tvheadend.
Using version 4.2.8-34~g24a2f59e9 on a Raspberry Pi3B+ with a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950 tuner.
Things are working fine except for continuity errors on a few services. What is strange is that if I play the underlying mux directly the continuity errors are not present and playing the service afterwards does not show continuity errors anymore until a reboot. I thought it could be pure luck but I have tested this several times playing the services for a long period and it is definitely reproducible.
Any idea?

Glad I found this post... I am also living this issue at the moment. I have a couple of known problem channels. If I map them and then play from the Guide, the bandwidth will drop from 18,000kbps to near nothing every say 30s, resulting in freezing and stuttering. If I play the corresponding mux directly, the bandwidth will hold steady at 18,000kbps and life is good. I can then go back and play ANY channel in the Guide without experiencing bandwidth issues. I still get several continuity errors here and there, but they don't seem to affect stream quality. I need to repeat this work-around each time I reboot.
I have reproduced this issue across two hardware installs (inexpensive mini-pc and a desktop-pc) with LibreELEC with Tvh-addon v9.2.0.123, using both wintv-hvr-950q and 955q. Playback/stream testing on VLC desktop, and the phone using TVH app.
Have you been able to find the cause and/or a permanent fix?

Hello and thanks for your post!
I tried to solve the problem for a few days with no luck and unfortunately nobody replied to my post so I thought it was specific to my setup.
Also I loved how easy setting-up Tvheadend is and the great and complete WebUI, I ended-up switching to MythTV. The setup is a little bit less easy. Part of it has to be done through a GUI so you have to connect a screen or use X-forwarding from a Linux client through SSH. But it works like a charm (with program guide) and it had been working rock solid on my Raspberry for a few months without even a reboot.
However I'm still interested in a solution if you find one.

Well one of you is talking about a WinTV-HVR-950 tuner whilst the other appears to be talking about both a wintv-hvr-950q and 955q, which in either case is not the same thing at all. And the OP doesn't state where he is or what kind of TV he is trying to receieve from what source so I'm not surprised there haven't been any posts.
So I guess that if anybody wants an answer, then providing more information would be a good start.
For myself, I came to TVH from MythTV after finding that just too difficult. YMMV.

I believe that OP and I are experiencing a similar issue. I for one am a noob at TVH, and the OP noted same... so if there is any information to be provided to help you assist us, you could just ask for it. I will start with some information here if you, or anyone interested in helping would like to know:
I am in Canada and using the TVH service in OpenELEC. Tuner is WinTV-HVR-955Q on ATSC-T network, pulling from a MUX bundle for Toronto. Playing a channel from the program guide works near error-free and at full bandwidth (~18,000kbps), but only AFTER playing at least one MUX directly from TVH Web portal (streaming on VLC in my case). This routine needs repeating after a reboot.
Thanks,

Sorry, I don't know anything about any WinTV products, nor LibreELEC in your case (or is it now OpenELEC?), nor Candadian broadcast standards so I can't help you at all.
I was just saying that you need to provide something more to give people a clue, so thanks for doing that.
