Prioritising DVB-T HD content over SD

Hi.

I'm using Tvheadend 4.2.8 to record DVB-T content in the UK.

A number of programmes are broadcast on simultaneous HD / SD services (eg. BBC Two HD / BBC Two) and SD only services (eg. Dave).

I'm trying to set up an autorec that will record all of these but prioritise the HD service when there is a choice.

I have tried setting the following:

1. DVR - Autorecs. Two autorecs, one with the "Channel tag" set to "HDTV" and the "Priority" set to High", and the other with the "Channel" set to "Dave".
2. Config - DVB Inputs - Services. Set the "Priority" of all the HD services to "10".
3. Config - Stream. Set the "Preferred service video type" to "HD: high definition".

All of these result in "BBC Two" being used instead of "BBC Two HD".

How do I configure Tvheadend to prioritise DVB HD content over SD?

I am not a TVH expert but I suspect that you will need to merge the two channels (BBC Two and BBC Two HD) and then set the HD one to have a higher priority.

The downside to this is that you won't be able to watch the local BBC news (which is SD only).

That's what I do. For BBC2 I combine the two channels as stated. For BBC1 I leave them separate for that reason. I'd be interested to know if there's a better way too.

Thanks for the responses. I'll see how your suggestions go.

What I'd actually tried was editing the upcoming recordings and changing the "Channel" from "BBC Two" to "BBC Two HD". This has, so far, resulted in every scheduled recording failing as follows:

dvr: "Program Name" on "BBC TWO HD" recorder starting
dvr: About to set stop timer for "Program Name" on "BBC TWO HD" at start 1581444000 and original stop 1581445800 and overall stop at 1581445800
dvr: "Program Name" on "BBC TWO HD": End of program: Time missed

I'm obviously being extremely dense, but I can't see how to merge channels. Can anyone help? (TVH 4.3-1857)

Assuming the services have the same name, there is the option to merge services with the same name when Mapping services to channels (see Configuration --> DVB Inputs --> Services --> Map services).
