Excluding encrypted channels in AutoRec search or selecting a channel range
Added by Joerg Knitter about 5 years ago
Hi,
I am new to Tvheadend (currently on 4.2 stable), coming from VDR, and I just checked the AutoRec feature.
In the EPGSearch feature of VDR, I was able to search the whole EPG (i.e. channels) for shows excluding encrypted channels, or I could select a range of channels where the EPG search should be limited to.
So if I wanted to search for a certain film, show or series that I missed or wanted to get a recording as soon as it is being broadcast, I could ensure that only valid/working/useful timers are set. Also imagine a series that is being premiered on a pay-tv channel that you cannot receive and then later on broadcast on a free-tv channel where you want a timer to be set automatically as soon as it is aired.
Is there a way to a channel range or exclude pay-tv channels in the AutoRec search?
Thanks in advance!

It has been many, many years since I used VDR, so I do not recall the EPG setup well. But in tvheadend, EPG works on channels and normally one would not map a service they cannot receive to a channel. You can limit the channels to search by using a channel tag which can be created in configuration->Channel/EPG->Channel Tags. Then in the channel tab you can add the tag to the channels you want.

Thanks for your hint regarding the mapping. However, I am not sure if I understood it correctly, especially because I am not clear about the usage of the tags and did not use it yet.
What I did now instead: I went to "Configuration -> Channel/EPG -> Channels", selected all, clicked on "Edit" and deleted all assigned entries. Then I clicked on "Map services -> Map all services", selected all options but "Map encrypted services" (left this checkbox empty).
As a result, I really seem to have a good list of all free Astra channels with just a few garbage left that needs to be sorted out. And SD and HD channels are now mapped separatedly, but that´s also how VDR worked.
Is there a way to disable encrypted service also in a similar way so that they are not even taken care of when using this mapping? There are e.g. those pay-tv channels that have a few minutes of free-tv broadcasts between encrypted content, so it might make sense to disable the service in the future right before updating the mapping.
And what is the best practice for updating the channel list? Are new services detected automatically, and I only have to remap them from time-to-time like described before?
If you know of an extensive guide on channel setup topics like this, I would also be happy getting a link.
