Added by Remco Wulms about 5 years ago
Hi,
Is there any chance that Tvheadend stable amd64 packages for Debian Buster can be added to apt.tvheadend.org?
Thanks, Remco

Hello,
I wanted to push the topic again. I'm also waiting eagerly for the packages for buster.
When can I expect? Thanks a lot for your efforts and the great project.
Henrik

For your information, I'm now running the Tvheadend stable amd64 package for Stretch from apt.tvheadend.org on my Buster machine without any problems...

Does anyone know where progress on:
We're working on getting stable [4.2.8] for buster sorted ASAP.
is being tracked?

What's happening? still nothing happened regarding the request for a buster installation package.
Likewise, development has not happened since July 2019, should I be worried?

Alas, I asked a similar question several months ago [[https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/41102]]. From the replies I got then, I have sadly deduced that TVHeadend is now compile-only-from-source. I believe that the source is at https://github.com/tvheadend/tvheadend though I have come references to other forks.
I would love to be wrong on this - so if anyone can correct this impression please do.

For many people, the easiest way to get newer versions to work is to use docker.
Docker is effectively a package manager that comes with all dependencies. Their server automatically builds a new release every time there is a checkin, though you don't have to upgrade each time and can just keep a version that works.
Search "linuxserver tvheadend". It shows how to run it, basically one command fetches and runs. If you run HDHomeRun then I'd probably add "--net=host" to the command (as described under Host vs. Bridge).
Docker has "volumes" (basically directories) for config and recordings. These are the things that you want to "persist", i.e., when you upgrade only these directories are kept.
Try running it with empty directories first to see if it works for you. See "Support Info" at the bottom of its page for extra information.

- Too bigger footstep on storage
- Too slow compared on native
- Too many memory normal for pseudo-virtualisation
- Too many permissions to allow normal work.

There still seem to be packages for recent versions of openSUSE; I'll need to upgrade soon, so I'll find out

Self compiling ready deb-packages for buster is pretty easy. Tell me whre to upload and I can provide my package. (latest source, not stable)

LEAP 15.2 ships with tvh 4.2.8 (Build: 31.05.2020)
4.2.8 ist the latest stable version - so SuSE is right.
openSUSE Tumbleweed: 4.2.8
And no - they are not being a little slow catching on.
