How to disable tvheadend

Added by Craig Dinger about 5 years ago

How do I disable Tvheadend from starting and release my TV tuner without removing Tvheadend?

I have Tvheadend running on Ubuntu 18.04 and I am happy with it, however, I would like to try the new Linux version of NextPVR. NextPVR was my first foray into PVR and I still have it running on a Windows 10 HTPC. Nextend is one feature of NextPVR I use for sports recordings. It automatically extends the recording beyond the program schedule when the game goes beyond the allotted time. Handy to avoid missing the end of a game without always adding 30 minutes or more to sports recordings. If this is available in Tvheadend please share how.

I have installed NextPVR on my Ubuntu machine. My problem is that NextPVR can't use my tuner because Tvheadend has control of it or at least I believe that is the problem.

I want to keep everything available for Tvheadend so that if after trying NextPVR I want to stick with Tvheadend I can start right back up with my current settings.

Thanks,

Craig

Hi Craig, if you want to shut down tvheadend within linux, open the terminal and type the command: "sudo service tvheadend stop." This command will shut down tvheadend completely. To restart: "sudo service tvheadend start".

Where did you download the new linux version of nextpvr?

Thanks
Lisa

Thanks Lisa,

That seems to stop Tvheadend but NextPVR is still not finding my tuner. I'll try posting in NextPVR to see if anyone there can help.

See https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?61483-Install-Information for NextPVR Linux.

On the Configuration - Channels display, in expert mode, you can find a an EPG running state setting. This offers an Enabled that adjusts the schedule based on EPG info. I've never activated it, so cannot say if it works accurately.
