DVBViewer + SAT>IP + Tvheadend issue
Added by Zbigniew Klos about 5 years ago
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and new Tvheadend user.
Long story short: for 2 years+ I have been using TBS5881 to view/record scrambled programmes from my DVB-C cable operator (CI/CAM inserted into the tuner).
TBS5581 was connected to Intel NUC running Windows 10 x64 with DVBViewer and DVBViewer Recording Service.
Recently 5881 tuner started to hang randomly during channel reception and I decided to buy new one - TBS5580 this time.
Unfortunately TBS5580 tuner does not work well under Windows, thanks to TBS buggy drivers.
But 5580 is stable under Linux so I convinced myself to make a big jump and switch to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS + TVHeadend 4.2.8-31
Everything is working fine with HTSP clients like Kodi/MrMC or Movian.
Under Windows clients I would prefer to stay with DVBViewer and continue using DVBViewer as SAT>IP client (rather than Kodi).
But here my issue begins.
I managed to configure SAT>IP server succesfully:
- configured RTSP port to 554 (or 9983 - same issue)
- set number of DVB-C tuners to 1 and descramble services to 1
- in network configuration I gave my 'MMP' network source number 1
DVBViewer 6.1.5 is able to detect SAT>IP server, it can scan the channels too.
But it cannot play any of the channels. Playback lasts 1-2 seconds at max and then it stops/freezes.
In tvheadend.log I can then see these messages scrolling on and on and on:
2019-08-16 16:49:08.877 [ NOTICE]:subscription: 0004: No input source available for subscription "SAT>IP Slave/MMP DVB-C/234MHz/Eurosport 1 HD" to service "MMP DVB-C/234MHz/Eurosport 1 HD" in mux "234MHz in MMP DVB-C"

The funny thing here is that if I then don't close DVBViewer, go to TVH web UI and launch the same channel via the built into TVH Web GUI Live TV Player, the channel starts to play back, both in Live TV player and in DVBViewer in parallel. And these messages disappear.
If I then close Live TV Player, playback in DVBViewer stops and again same messages start to appear in tvheadend.log.
Can someone help resolve this problem ?
Thank you,
Zbyszek

Is the CAM CI+? Perhaps that's the reason.

Bug is in DVBViewer in my poin of view.
I test DVBViewer satip client with 2 sat positions it never search second one,
it send scan commands to first one position.

Hi,
It's not CI+ CAM.
Because of that I decided to use Kodi as Windows TVH client but eventually dropped Linux+TBS5580+TVH+Kodi idea completely and returned 5580 to the seller.
After writing the above email I just discovered too many issues/bugs in TVH. For example:
- fake/incorrect OTA EPG programme names (but if I schedule a recording of such progrmme with incorrect name in EPG and go to scheduled recordings tab, the programme name there is, out of the blue, correct)
- no easy way to trigger EIT OTA EPG scan (only thorugh Mux scheduler)
- inability to switch to another channel after current one was watched for too long, like at least an hour or so. Massive numbers of continuity errors in TVH logs then. But I'm able to return and watch the channel I was watching for the past hour (to just this one only). Restart of TVH service fixes that.
- difficult to implement automatic sleep/resume function under Linux. Doable but too complex.
- very limited post-recording email notification capabilities in TVH
Instead I was able to find and buy brand new TBS5881 to replace the failing one and it's running smoothly under Windows 10/DVBViewer.

Remove TBS as brand take Digital Devices or Hauppague, DvbSky

Any specific reason? Is TBS that bad?

Is 40+ devices changed is enough
zero support
if someone start to make MOI alternative will ban this brand in all serviced by me stations.

Hi,
I agree TBS support is bad. I had a remote session with TBS support recently and their only statement was that it was player issue, not a 5580 driver issue.
So if three different programs do not work well under Windows with TBS5580 and work well with TBS5881 in exactly same HW/SW configuration then for them it's the program's issue (it does not work well with our card), not their driver issue.
Basically they refused to continue investigation further.
But on the other hand it's only them who manufactures what I need i.e USB DVB-C tuners with CI slot. If there's such alternative from other brand and can be purchased then let me know...
My TV server is Intel NUC so no place for PCIe cards.
There's a lot of USB DVB-C tuners available with no CI slot but I have no time nor knowledge to set up things as smartcard readers, oscam, dvbapi etc etc to make it work together.
Especially having known that there's a lot information on the forums how to set it up together with DVB-S/satellite operators but close to zero about cable ones.
Cable TV users typically have decoders and are not TV enthusiasts, they just power it on and use it.
Sadly I'm an enthusiast and I have no way to receive SAT (no visibility to the south from my flat) and luckily my cable provider provides CI/smartcard sets (if you don't like their decoders) and I can do what I want with them (no CI+ = no pairing at all).

digital devices have dvb-c with CI slot
https://digitaldevices.de/products/network_tv_tuner/octopus_net_a8/
See other brands on this table
https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB-C_USB_Devices
I use lot of dvb-c devices so its same no so big difference from T and S
RE: DVBViewer + SAT>IP + Tvheadend issue - Added by Zbigniew Klos about 5 years ago
I'll look at Digital Devices but they are actually network tuners, much more complicated and hence very expensive.
The other table - the only USB tuners with CI slot listed are Technotrend's. I had CT2-4650 CI before TBS5881 and, at least under Windows, it's stability was horrible when compared with 5881 :-(

There is noting complicated dvbviwer work with them also android/ios/Panasonic devices.
