Tvheadend

So I just found out about tvheadend and that it can be used as a dvr. My questions is can this be done through kodi alone, or do i need some kind http://movieseriesworld.com/ of special setup? I just subscribed to Eternal TV and would love dvr. I run kodi either through my xbox one or android tv. Any help would be appreciated..
