950q usb tuner help
Added by Lisa White almost 6 years ago
Its me again, and I need some help with my tuner. I have a Hauppauge 950q tuner that I am setting up within my tvheadend. I can only get one tuner(Auvitek AU8522 QAM/8VSB Frontend #0 : ATSC-T #0) to show the scanned channels. The 2nd tuner (Auvitek AU8522 QAM/8VSB Frontend #0 : ATSC-C #0) does not show the network that I had created for tuner 1.. I tried to create a second network mux and it does scan 150 mux's but none are found. I think this maybe a driver problem. Can someone provide a thorough guide on how I can fix this?
Thanks, and I am sorry to be such a bother.

You only have one tuner with multiple frontends, each frontend can only receive one type of signal. In your case you have a tuner that can receive over-the-air signals ATSC- T usually via an antenna/aerial, and cable ATSC- C delivered via a coax to your home.
Both of these are different and can only receive the signal type they are designed for.

Just to add, if you are connecting to an antenna, you will only receive ATSC-T channels and ONLY the ATSC-T tuner will be able to tune anything.
Also note that due to "must carry" laws, in the US, cable providers also transmit ATSC-T signals over the same coax cable as their ATSC-C signals. That means if you connect to your cable provider's coax cable, you will have access to both ATSC-T and ATSC-C channels (but not at the same time...).
(In other countries, cable providers may also provide terrestrial signals, but it is not required)

Thank you so much for your answer. I just want to make sure that I have understood it correctly. You are saying that my 950q tuner is not a true (2) tuner capable of recording a channel and watching a different channel at the same time? And it only has the capabilities of receiving 2 different types of signals?
Thanks

Yes But it can (hardware dependant) stream more than one service per mux/frequency.
