repository broken?
Added by jody gugelhop about 6 years ago
hi folks, i have a ubuntu xenial machine here on which I have tvheadend running, current version HTS Tvheadend 4.3-1288~g66d6161
anyhow I wasn't here for a couple month so wanted to run an update on my machine but i get errors when doing apt-get update
my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tvheadend.list
originally only contained
deb https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/deb/ xenial unstable
as described here for bintray https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/AptRepository
but I also commented that out and tried deb https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu unstable main
as described here https://bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu
all resulting in:
: The repository 'https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu unstable Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore potentially dangerous to use.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
E: Failed to fetch https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu/dists/unstable/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
what's going wrong here??

It's an issue with Bintray, basically they don't want us uploading/downloading staticlibs during the build. A solution is being worked on.

I also have problems with the repo (on http://apt.tvheadend.org/stable; this should be Doozer but maybe it's going to the same bintray-repo).

Yea, same here using Doozer. Never could get dl.bitray.com to work. I just setup a fresh install on Tues - glad I got it done before today!

Indeed I had also tried to switch to Doozer as alternative last night but got same errors there as well. What to do? I guess only other alternative is to:
1: I want to have my system up to date so disable tvheadend sources in apt sources and update/upgrade systems (might this brake tvheadend??No it doesn't)
2: build tvheadend from source https://github.com/tvheadend/tvheadend.git
3: wait
4: other suggestions?

Mine is working so I'm just going to give them a chance to work out a solution.

I got the same error than Nero Rome...
Err:10 https://apt.tvheadend.org/stable bionic Release
404 Not Found [IP: 104.31.95.73 443]
Any news?

nope, there is always building from source
RE: repository broken? - Added by rha tatouille about 6 years ago
Easy to say ;o) i have a bionic 64 and it's not easy to know exactly what files to use for building like "/stable bionic Release"

not sure I understand what you mean but maybe this will help you along
if you follow the links from download, you will end up with latest stable release source link:
https://github.com/tvheadend/tvheadend/releases/tag/v4.2.4
get tar or zip file
then check first here:https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/Building
as probably you will need to install most packages mentioned there first
build is described here: https://github.com/tvheadend/tvheadend
follow those steps, configure or make might through errors, inspect errors to see what you are missing and install then you should be good to go

Thank you mate,....i was not sure , there are some many files lol, when you select apt repo it's all automatic ;o) you can't download bad files...

Due to problems with the repo at apt.tvheadend.org
, I've moved to dl.bintray.com
.
$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tvheadend.list # deb http://apt.tvheadend.org/stable bionic main $ $ cat /etc/apt/sources.list #deb cdrom:[Linux Mint 19 _Tara_ - Release amd64 20180717]/ bionic contrib main non-free deb https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu stable main #
It was okay for a couple of days but since a few days I've problems again:
$ sudo apt-get update Hit:1 http://ubuntu.inode.at/ubuntu bionic InRelease Hit:2 http://ubuntu.inode.at/ubuntu bionic-updates InRelease Hit:3 http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu bionic InRelease Hit:4 http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu bionic InRelease Hit:5 http://ubuntu.inode.at/ubuntu bionic-backports InRelease Ign:6 http://mirror.inode.at/linuxmint/packages tara InRelease Hit:7 http://mirror.inode.at/linuxmint/packages tara Release Ign:8 https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu stable InRelease Get:9 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security InRelease [83,2 kB] Err:10 https://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/ubuntu stable Release 403 Forbidden [IP: 159.122.18.156 443] Reading package lists... It's quite annoying if an official repo is not working.

IMHO it's not the final solution for a broken repo that everyone has to build the software itself.
