Stuttering image when streaming?

Added by Magnus Ottosson almost 13 years ago

Hi,

When I watch a live stream through either vlc or XBMC I get a stuttering image. If I however start a recording and open the mkv in vlc I get absolutely no stuttering. What could be causing this? Even if I open the mkv immediately after I start the recording so I kind of is wathing livetv I get no problem.

Any ideas on what could be causing the stuttering image when streaming?

I open the stream like: http://localhost:9981/stream/channelid/71

Do you mean on the same machine where files are recorded? If you stream to a distant machine, the link quality may e the problem (WiFi, PLT, ...). If its on the same machine then I have no idea. Works .for me even on wifi on different stairs.

I get the stuttering even on localhost when watching through xbmc. First I thought it might be signal quality but tvheadend says "quality: 100" and I tried connect my tv using the same cable and it works perfectly. It shouldn't be a signal quality since it is no problem when recording.

Is it cpu intensive to stream? I run the system on a inte ion/atom 1.6ghz. It seems like the cpu is at only 25% so I guess not.

Any other ideas?

XBMC is difficult to configure. What video settings do you have? You should use vdpau acceleration, not vaapi and then you should select when playing the stream deinterlace, with bob or ion optimzed.
Do you use a git version of oepnkamp?

It seems like its working localhost in xbmc. I'm using a special branch of xbmc with pvr support and support for tvheadend as backend. This suddensly seems to be working great. All I did was to turn of signal monitoring on my dvb-c devices. Might something weird there?

I still get a stuttering image when streaming on my local network. My htpc is connected with wifi so that might be the problem. Tvheadend records directly to a smb share that is also connected with wifi and that seems to work but the protocols might work differently. How much bandwidth do I need to stream, I guess streaming over wifi should not be a problem?

I will make som more tests and see if I can pinpoint the problem and also hook up a network cable to the htpc and see if that solves the problem with streaming.
