Android users having problems with VLC

Added by Jason A over 6 years ago

Hi,

I was having problems with VLC trying to stream htsp feeds, they kept freezing on my Toumei projector and just made the entire experience unwatchable.

I found an app in the Google Play store called "Wuffy" which improved the quality of the streams immensely, I suggest you give that a go if you are having issues.

(I am in no way affiliated with Wuffy)

Cheers

Jason

Do you use the very old and not updated HTSP plugin made for the older 32bits VLC? Its better to use the HTTP streams directly into VLC. They work perfectly fine.

Ah, I did not know the HTSP plugin was out of date.

This is the version of tvheadend I am using
tvheadend: version 4.2.6-8~g13576f815~xenial

If I wanted to feed the stream direct, would I use the "pass" profile?

Cheers

Jason

this plugin do not work with tvh API after 4.1.x

I am using 4.2.6-8 and it is still working, I understand it is no longer being maintained.

With my Android tv client, how do I switch to http? I actually have the same issue with Kodi, how do I switch that over as well?

Any advice is very welcome.

Thank you

Can't you just use the KODI android app? Do you have issues with the Android KODI app as well? You can use the TVH Plugin from the KODI Repo once you install the KODI app. Its working great with the HTSP protocol.

If you still need to input the http streams into VLC (or any other compatible app) you can do it pretty easily:

Start VLC and go to Media -> Open Network Stream

Then type in the field: http://tvh_username:tvh_password@tvh_ip:9981/playlist

Change the above information to match your environment.

This is a way to make VLC stream the generated m3u list directly from TVH. Go to View -> Playlist to browse that list through VLC.

There is a catch though, If you are using recent versions of TVH, you will need to go to: Configuration -> General -> Base and scroll down till you find Authentication Type, change that to Both plain and digest and save.

Then it should work.

I am using the Kodi Android app, yes, on a Raspberry Pi but it's a bit slower than using the Wuffy media player on my projector as it is not the most powerful Android device unfortunately. HTSP works well, yes, but if it is no longer being maintained then I was thinking of switching to something else. It can wait until after the World Cup :)

Thanks for this but there is one slight problem, I cannot find that authentication type, I can only see a checkbox for "Use HTTP digest authentication:"...any ideas?

Again, thanks for your help.

Then it should work.

I just wanted to verify that you got what I meant about the plugin in KODI? There is a plugin specifically made for TVH and its working great since its always updated. Check under My Addons -> PVR Clients from within the KODI app in order to find it.

About the authentication type, just uncheck that checkbox and it will work.

Yes - I use that plugin, works well.

Ok, thanks again
