Thoroughly confused new user and my brain hurts

Added by Per-Olof Litby over 6 years ago

Greetings,

I'm currently running a dvblink server with Kodi as front end. It works well but their design of the recording database is very fragile. I also am moving to Linux on all my servers so I thought I would try TVH.

I have two network SAT>IP boxes, each with 4 tuners. Currently only the sat tuners are set up as follows:

The intent is, obviously, to have 4 simultaneously available streams for viewing or recording. All services are encrypted so I have set up a CA which talks to an Oscam server. This works great and the start of a stream is pretty much instantaneous which is impressive. In the screenshot below I have 5 separate streams running in VLC, started from the preview in the TVH web UI:

The problem starts when I try to do basic stuff like rrecording, which simply doesn't work. If I start a recording from the UI, a red alert icon immediately appears. If I do it in Kodi, it says "recording started" immediately followed by "recording finished" and in neither case is anything shown in the failed recordings tab.

The recording set up is all default except the recording and timeshift locations which are in /media/record and /media/timehift, mounted shares on a QNAP TS-1635 which is on the same 10 Gbps network as the TVH server, the latter running in a Debian 9 VM with four Xeon cores, 12 GB RAM and its own 10 Gbps port.

The TVH user has write access to the shares so I doubt it is a permissions issue.

Timeshift appears to work fine in the Kodi client.

I must have made some basic mistake. Surely I should be able to have simultaneous viewing and recording?

Open the bar at the bottom of the webui & start a recording, it should output some debugging info.

Doh. It turned out to be a problem with the way I was mounting via SMB. After changing to NFS the issue was resolved :D
