[SOLVED] Create user with no password

Added by Mark Adamson over 6 years ago

Hello,

I'm trying to create a user with no password, and I can't figure out how to do it (or if it's even possible). I want to create a user named 'kodi' which has only the specific permissions required for a Kodi frontend, and is limited to my local network.

I've first duplicated my normal 'mark' user, and applied the net mask '192.168.0.0/24'. Gave it username and password 'kodi'. this all works fine and I can log into the web ui using these credentials. I tried setting the password blank, and could not log in as 'kodi', ''. I also tried setting the password to '*', setting the passwords entry to username: '*', password: '*', and removing the password entry altogether. I could not find a combination where I could log in as the user 'kodi' with no password at all.

Is this possible to achieve? If so, how do I go about it?

I'm using tvheadend version 4.2.5-37~g47b29415f

Thanks,

Mark

  • Create a * user with limited permissions (no need to set a password). Ignore the network prefix here.
  • Create your kodi user with extra permissions and create a password using *. This must follow the anon user.
  • then add all other accounts.

HTH.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the help! I'm still struggling though. I've set up the Access Entries and Passwords as you described, but I'm still unable to log in using the 'kodi' username and no password.

I've attached screenshots with my user setup - please let me know if you need to see anything else. Can you see where I might be going wrong?

Thanks

In Passwords add also user * without password.
Also in *
user add permission to stream.

Thanks for all the help guys, I've managed to sort it.

For future people with the same problem, I think the issue was the order of the users in the list. In the end, my configuration is similar to one of my initial tries. The only difference I can think of is that the 'kodi' user is now first in the list.

For reference, I've attached screenshots of my working configuration:
