Unable to record
Added by jim dods almost 7 years ago
Hi all, I had been able to record about a week ago. But now when i try to record from the Web GUI or Kodi, it falters. From the web GUI it will crash TvH. From Kodi, it comes up with "PVR backend error" -- When the issue started i was able to record, but on playback Kodi and TvH would crash as well.
I have updated to latest version 4.3 ~936 (i know it can be unstable), but sense there is something wrong with my setup. I am not sure where to start, if anyone has any ideas? Thanks

Sorry i have not provided more info, i cant figure how to get debug logs -- i set path in the GUI but cant see a file.
Nevertheless, it seems experimental builds are likely to give issues. What would be the best way to revert to a stable version? Is this possible and retain all the settings. It was very arduous to get channels and EPG all set up, so hope not to start from scratch.
Thank you

- Stop tvh, backup your current config (just copy the whole config dir).
- Pick an old backed up config (in the backup folder of the config dir) and restore it.
- Downgrade using apt..
sudo apt-get install tvheadend*=<config version>
Usesudo apt-cache show tvheadend
for available versions - use the version string from this).
I'm running 936 here & can record via the webui but not Kodi, will open an issue for this..

Thank you Mark, will give it a go.
I am well over my head. If I just downgrade to a stable version, will the configuration and settings (file and folder) carry over? I assume not, but thought i would ask.

The issue has been fixed in master. You may try to upgrade again if you'd like.

Fantastic, working again with the latest update. Thank you!

While i can initiate recording, and it seems to record, i do find that just trying to play a recording thru Kodi will freeze up my TVH install (RasPi 3). Not sure others have an issue.
RE: Unable to record [solved] - Added by jim dods almost 7 years ago
I think the issue is trying to record to a USB drive on the RasPi. I have mounted it and can access it, but maybe it is too slow? How do folks record when using a RasPi?
When i record to the local SD card, it seems to work ok. But would rather not record to that given the OS is on there, and of course limited space.
UPDATE
Combined with the fix to TvH noted above, and now pointing to a mounted NAS flash drive, it now works real well -- no more crashing so far. Not sure why flash connected right to the RasPi did not work well.
