Installing on Raspbian Stretch
Added by M J almost 7 years ago
I'm migrating to Raspbian Stretch, but all I'm getting are a lot of errors when trying to install the tvheadend backend.
I've tried https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/Building but it complains about gettext binaries not being available when I configure (they are there).
I've tried https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/AptRepository#Raspberry-Pi-Raspbian-armhf but I get errors as soon as I try to install the GPG keys, I get a lot of "no such file or directory" errors.
I've tried https://tvheadend.org/boards/4/topics/29740 but those URLs in the wget command don't work either.
What's the 2018 way to install tvheadend on Raspbian?

What errors are you getting, can you post the output? OK, I've updated the instructions to include a fix for what I think is your problem, check the apt page again

I got quite a bit farther w/that one, but it still failed in the end. When I run Autobuild.sh it ends w/
as: unrecognized option '-ENABLE_PIC=1' Makefile:190: recipe for target 'vpx_dsp/arm/intrapred_neon_asm.asm.S.o' failed make[5]: *** [vpx_dsp/arm/intrapred_neon_asm.asm.S.o] Error 1 Makefile:17: recipe for target '.DEFAULT' failed make[4]: *** [.DEFAULT] Error 2 make[4]: Leaving directory '/home/pi/tvheadend/build.linux/ffmpeg/libvpx-1.6.1' Makefile.ffmpeg:310: recipe for target '/home/pi/tvheadend/build.linux/ffmpeg/libvpx-1.6.1/.tvh_build' failed make[3]: *** [/home/pi/tvheadend/build.linux/ffmpeg/libvpx-1.6.1/.tvh_build] Error 2 make[3]: Leaving directory '/home/pi/tvheadend' Makefile:841: recipe for target '/home/pi/tvheadend/build.linux/ffmpeg/build/ffmpeg/lib/libavcodec.a' failed make[2]: *** [/home/pi/tvheadend/build.linux/ffmpeg/build/ffmpeg/lib/libavcodec.a] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/pi/tvheadend' debian/rules:11: recipe for target 'override_dh_auto_build' failed make[1]: *** [override_dh_auto_build] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/pi/tvheadend' debian/rules:5: recipe for target 'build' failed make: *** [build] Error 2 dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules build gave error exit status 2

Well, w/the building part, I've already gotten past that first error and onto the next.
W/the 2nd one, when I try to run "sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 379CE192D401AB61" I get
Executing: /tmp/apt-key-gpghome.OLq9Cv6u8a/gpg.1.sh --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 379CE192D401AB61 gpg: failed to start the dirmngr '/usr/bin/dirmngr': No such file or directory gpg: connecting dirmngr at '/tmp/apt-key-gpghome.OLq9Cv6u8a/S.dirmngr' failed: No such file or directory gpg: keyserver receive failed: No dirmngr
and finally
pi@dospace:~/tvheadend$ wget https://transfer.sh/62bly/tvheadend_4.2.4~raspbianstretch_armhf.deb --2018-01-01 16:07:38-- https://transfer.sh/62bly/tvheadend_4.2.4~raspbianstretch_armhf.deb Resolving transfer.sh (transfer.sh)... 185.216.24.82, 2001:bc8:4700:2000::4423 Connecting to transfer.sh (transfer.sh)|185.216.24.82|:443... connected. I've updated the AptRepository page with the fix for the dirmngr issue.

Thanks, that did it. It's always better to use the packages hwen you can.
But I had the idea that this was just installing the backend, and the frontend would start working when I did this. It didn't. It's complaining about an incompatibility. What should I do to start the frontend?

Try reinstalling kodi & make sure you've installed kodi-pvr-hts from the same repo.
The incompatibility is usually from trying to use kodi-pvr-hts built for a newer version of Kodi than the one you have installed.
