Raspberry 4.2.4 Service Instance Bad

Added by Kristoffer M almost 7 years ago

Hello,

i have recently updated my tvheadend version to 4.2.4 with help of these instructions (https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/AptRepository)

It is running on a pi3 and a e461 dvb-s2 usb adapter.

Since then i am getting a "service instance is bad, reason: No input detected" error. It worked fine before the update.
I already tried to update the firmware driver with no effect.

Is anybody having similiar issues ?

If you can play a mux, your channels may have changed & need re-mapping.

If you can't play anything (not even a mux) that suggests something else.

I tried to start a mux and got the same error message

Same story - after an update to 4.3-733~g2952888 on Ubuntu 16.4 x64
A service restart helps to get everything work great again, but after some time TVHeadend service stops to work and throws the same error message again and again, until you restart the service.

RE: Raspberry 4.2.4 Service Instance Bad - Added by Mark Clarkstone almost 7 years ago

:( Sorry your having issues on the Pi. I'm in the process of setting up my Tinkerboard for use with the rpi builds to see if I can replicate this, if not I'll try on an RPi.

When this happens does dmesg output anything of interest? From what you're saying it sounds as if the tuner (or maybe the driver) doesn't like being "active" all the time.

When it happens again, instead of restarting the service, can you try enabling/disabling the tuner in tvheadend? If that results in a working stream, you could give the power saving and "Turn off lnb when idle" options a try.

Okay i finally solved it !

I had to update my kernel , there seem to be some idenpendcies.

1.) sudo apt-get update
2.) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade (took nearly over 4 hours on my pi 3)

hope that helps anybody with the same occurrences

OK that sounds like something in the kernel was broken on a previous update and another update may have fixed it. Doing a dist-upgrade on a pi can take a while especially going from Jessie to Stretch! I use https://github.com/FooDeas/raspberrypi-ua-netinst as it's a lot easier imo.
