Setting up tvheadend for first time - not seeing any channels

Added by Kevin Praeger about 7 years ago

Hello, I am trying tvheadend for the first time. I got it installed correctly I think since I can get to the web interface. I am using LibreELEC and added it in via Kodi.

I am using a HP Desktop PC with a HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD PCI Express TV Tuner Card 1609 (this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DZSVLTW/

One concern I have is that on the TV Adapters tab within Tvheadend, I see the 4 tuners listed there, but they are listed like: LG Electronics LGDT3306A VSB/QAM Frontend #0 : ATSC-T #0 (#0 through #3) Is this a concern?

Secondly, I can't get it to scan any channels. I tried various settings. I have Over-the-air regular broadcast antenna in Los Angeles Area (United States) and I think I'm supposed to use ATSM-T does that sound right? It's failing on all muxes.

Any ideas for me?

It's still a work-in-progress, but I just wrote a walk-through of setting up an HDHomeRun ATSC tuner which I think will be very similar. Just ignore everything except the HDHomeRun post.

I have no issues giving people wiki editor rights on tvheadend.org - provided no one disagrees - just open an issue and ask for it :)

Thank you for you prompt replies. I have the antenna already set up, and all hardware already installed. I previously had this computer running Windows 10, Kodi, and NextPVR, however my experience there was a bit Klunky and slow responsive. Everything worked fine there, it was just a bit slow.

That's why I decided to give LibreELEC a try, and I read that tvheadend was a good PVR to pair with that, but I am having a difficult time getting it running. Installing it was a breeze (just installed the add on in Kodi) but I can't get it set up.

I read your posts, but I am still having issues. Here's the steps I took, to no avail so far.

1. TV Adapters tab shows 4 TV adapters listed there, and the other 3 tabs are empty (Networks, Muxes, Services)
2. I went to Networks, clicked Add, type I put ATSC-T.
3. Network name I entered "Antenna TV", for pre-defined muxes: United States: us-ATSC-center-frequencies-8VSB, then I clicked Create.
4. Then I went back to the TV adapters tab and set the Network on each of the 4 adapters to be "Antenna TV".
5. Then I just wait a few minutes and it scans all the items on the muxes tab, and they all get set to FAIL after a couple minutes.

So what am I doing wrong? I know I'm still getting channels just fine because if I connect the antenna directly to the TV I tune to them just fine.

Attached is an image of my TV Adapters tab.

The pre-defined frequencies are more than likely out of date. You'll have to manually add your own. But check "dmesg" (on your system) for errors too.

Frequency must be correct, not all predefined frequency are correct, examples lot.
See on TV parameters for some of channels and set it on TVH.

How do I manually add my own? Where do I find those frequencies? Also, how do I check "dmesg"? Sorry I am totally newbie to this product.

I know my TV has a "scan" feature where it will just scan every channel trying to see if it picks it up. Is there a similar feature in tvheadend?
