How to get tvheadend play to open up in a player / VLC ?

Added by Peter Wislander over 7 years ago

When I click on play inside webui I only a question if I want to download a random filename.

I can not associate this with a filetype because the urls do not have a consistent filending or a filending at all.

How are you guys usually playing.

I believe there is a built in player? I've seen it once on a friends computer.

there is no build in player, or external one in TVHeadend.
HTML5 compatible browsers have by spec player,
Webtv profiles are compatible but require transcoding.

About VLC browser plugin, vlc team stop support.
There is a plugin for VLC

That link you click that downloads a file - right click it and copy link address.

Open VLC and open a network link/source - Paste that link and play

@Anthony, yes I know that. Maybe should have been clearer about that. But that is not a fun or user friendly way to play a stream. To much of a hassle.
