TBS6909 - Tvheadend stops working when around 6-8 tuners are requested rapidly

I believe my issue is close to the one described here:

https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/8524

When there is perhaps too much concurrency either tvheadend or tbs6909 card stops working.

Even when I restart tvheadend, it doesn't recover. When I reboot the computer it works again.

When I view status -> subscribtions tvheadend seems stuck on "testing" which I don't know why, because everything that is automatically is basically turned off.

At least I believe it is. Initial scan, idle scan is off. Network discovery off.

Anyone knows the reason to this and what the fix is?

The solution in the above board, recommends to use : https://github.com/ljalves/linux_media/wiki

but that relies on a 4 year old fork of tbs drivers?

Who is at fault here, tvheadend or tbs drivers?

I've tried to midprobe -r tbsecp3 and then midrobe -a tbsecp3 ...

I've also updated tvheaden to the latest version. Updated ubuntu 16 to latest and later kernel and reinstalled tbs drivers.

this error is still occuring.

It doesn't even have to be the ninth mux being requested .. it might happen before.

Is there a way to reboot the card without rebooting the server? Is this possibly a driver issue? Have you encountered this before?

I will try to reboot the server and see if I reproduce this error back once mire.

It might have to do with the 9th mux being requested, however, everything should not break down when that happens, right?

The use of a QUAD over a QUATTRO LNB might be too resource intensive for the card? Maybe with a QUAD the card ends up doing too much work?

Let me know if this is a known issue and if there is any easy fix for this.

1. Yes, for tbs6909, if only one cable is conencted, 8 tuners can work, but only single polarization will work, V or H. So i said, two cables is needed if you want to get V and H signal.
2. I'm not sure if you can buy this Octa LNB in the market, i know Dual LNB, Quad LNB, Quattro LNB, but nerver heard Octa LNB.
3. If you have many cards means many inputs, you'd connect a multisiwtch to get mire output ports.
4. Yes, conenct  2 cables to VL&HL or VH&HH, then 8 tuners will work, you can receive 8 different transponders, one tuner for one transponder.

Yes, I am aware of the multiswitch mode. I am using an OCTO LNB but actually only using 2 outputs and two inputs on the card. VH and HH.

I was told prior to purchasing the LNB by TBS support that would work and enable me to use 8 tuners on different muxes. That has worked, but maybe these bugs are related to this kind of use. Maybe that is putting a lot of strains on the card. I just feel that a good driver should be able to recover withou a system reboot. There's literally no other way to recover, I've tried everything.

The reason I choose that path was that I could use one OCTO LNB and get 8/2 = 4 TBS cards on the same satellite dish and without using an expensive multiswitch.

I had never heard of the DIGITAL DEVICES. Looks promising. Unfortunately one discovers these things once the wallet has been opened up. Not sure if I can return the card now.

I see that the S8 card on digital devices has three modes. A UNICABLE LNB using only one input on the card. Do you know what that is? That would enable an OCTO LNB -> 8 OCTO CARDS -> 8 * 8 muxes? That might be even better than the 8 * 4 max muxes for an OCTO LNB using tbs6909.

Care to explain what options tbs_pcie-dvb tbs_int_type=1 does or intended for?

I got TBS support to root access my server and install closed drivers yesterday, but today I am not able to discover any services. Not sure why that is. I will try to hook it up to a external receiver and see if the dish has moved or why SRI and Signal Strength is zero.

So the consensus here is that this is a tbs issue or a tvheadend issue?

Would it work to downgrade from ubuntu 16 to 14 and thereby use an older kernel? CentOS seems default on the MOI servers. Does that perhaps work better?

TBS drivers are worst ever, it destroy support for any other brand tuners in box.
no DKMS no responsive open support. forum... nothing there

Yes, it is on the board. You saying that's good or bad? I am really not well oriented with all this as of yet ( will get there! ).

Should I look into the digital devices cards in the future?

Multiswith send Low/Hi band with corresponding polarisation Vertical/Horizontal
thats how from 4 inputs 8 tuners get correct signal

Hmm, it actually mentions Unicable on https://www.tbsdtv.com/products/tbs6909-dvb-s2-8-tuner-pcie-card.html

But the TBS support for the TBS6909 told me to get the 8 tuners working, i needed at least 2 cables as an input ( VH and HH, input 1 and 3 ).

The link says: Unicable/one cable compatible

Which is strange, considering he told me I needed at two to get all 8 tuners to work all with different muxes across any combination of V/H.

You never told me what the option:
options tbs_pcie-dvb tbs_int_type=1

does.

I will try to cat /proc/interrupts once i am up and running again and run into issues agian.

I have now installed according to the cesbo drivers guide.
