Tvheadend and Triax Tss 400 setup

Added by Mister Pablo over 7 years ago

Hi guys,

Hoping for a little help here.

I got my Triax Tss400 yesterday and after hours of trying to get it working, im turning to you :)

First.
TvHeadend can see the tss400 and the tuners.

But it cannot find any channels or mux's.
Am I missing something ?

This is my setup:

Double check LNB type, see this

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply.
I have tried almost every setup of that LNB.
Is there anyway to tell if the triax tss 400 is getting a signal at all ?

Kind regards

You should be able to get the box to scan for services itself, I know most provide a playlist you can use in VLC.

Can you post the log output [click the bar on the bottom of the webui in tvh] during a scan?

RE: Tvheadend and Triax Tss 400 setup - Added by Mister Pablo over 7 years ago

Hi Mark,

It has not found any mux's yet, but if i manualy type one ind and force a scan, it gives me this:

2017-07-12 11:50:49.478 subscription: 008D: "scan" subscribing to mux "10778V", weight: 6, adapter: "SAT>IP DVB-S Tuner #1 (192.168.1.203)", network: "DVB-S Network", service: "Raw PID Subscription"
2017-07-12 11:51:09.465 mpegts: 10778V in DVB-S Network - scan no data, failed
2017-07-12 11:51:09.465 subscription: 008D: "scan" unsubscribing

Is there a way to search for mux's ?

Kind regards

Well, if you know the mux you've manually added is working but failing to scan, all the others would fail too, so a mux search/blind scan would be pointless.

Also, be sure that your device can actually send a complete mux [some can't] and change the sat-ip client options accordingly. You'll need a Gigabit network for that.

I've heard these boxes can sometimes be tricky to set up as they all do slightly different things when it comes to the SAT-IP standard.

Kind regards

Is there any muxes added from predefined or only manual and "auto" is not used?

Hi Mark,

Im not sure what you mean by "that your device can actually send a complete mux [some can't] and change the sat-ip client options accordingly"
would you be so kind to explain ?
The mux i added by hand is taken off this site "https://www.lyngsat.com/packages/Canal-Digital-Danmark.html"

Hi Sean,

There are no predefined mux's, i can only add them manual.

Kind regards

When you add the mux manually from the lyngsat list, make sure you get the numbers of zeroes right for the various frequencies (MHz vs. kHz, etc.). Not sure this is your issue, but I remember me getting this wrong when I started with TVH.

There is predefined muxes for both intelsat and thor with strange name "1.0W:Thor" and "1.0W:Intelsat-1002"

In my initial tests with an SAT>IP server I used this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.co.icube.tivizen.satip
to verify that I would get signals and watch TV. Perhaps worth a try.

Oh, and this Alignment tool https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cmuv.Alignment
also was very handy. It also tells you the frequencies and polarization

RE: Tvheadend and Triax Tss 400 setup - Added by Mister Pablo over 7 years ago

Hi Martin,

I did fall into that trap to start with, but I changed them to the correct values.
Still no luck.

Hi Sean,
There is no predefined muxes in my version of TVh :(

Hi Ullix,
Thanks for those links !!!
When i used the Tivizen app it found 60 channels, so the sat>ip server is working.

Now,
I used alot of Mark's time today trying to find out what was wrong.
Im running the tvheadend on a ubuntu in a VM.
So after trying all kind of settings, We agreed on trying to run Tvh off a Pi insted, just to rule out some weird setting/port errors.
I will be trying that tomorow and be back with a fresh update.

A big thanks to Mark for spending all that time debugging :)
And for you guys to help me in this long ass quest :D

Kind regards

I faintly remember that I needed to enter a valid mux first, before tvh would auto-find the others. Use the Alignment App to pick a frequency and polarization and enter that under Configuration->Networks->Edit NEtwork->pre-defined muxes. Then click the Force Scan button.

RE: Tvheadend and Triax Tss 400 setup - Added by Mister Pablo over 7 years ago

Hi ullix,

You where right about the need for one mux to start things of.

Now:
Today I installed tvheaend on a raspberry pi and the moment i was done with the setup of Tvheadend, i found 115 muxes and 337 channels.
GREAT SUCCESS.
So, it does seem like there is something odd going on with the VM i was running to test this out.
The good thing is that now i know its working and its doing what it is suppose to.

Again, I got the help from Mark Clarkstone, who could guide me in the right direction over irc. Thanks for that :)

But... all is not well :)
Some of the muxex it found gave the error:
service instance is bad, reason: No input detected
But when i plug my cable back into my reciver, I can see the channels on that mux just fine, no problem.
So, what could be the reason for this?
Could it be that the pi is not strong enough for the task?

I think it might need a new thread, but not sure if that is against the rules?

Kind regards

Ps, i will do a small tut on the "Triax Tss 400 and Tvheadend" so others dont need to go through the same things as me :)

Just a small note, you may want to set the UB_ values to the defaults [on your sat-ip server] just to be safe, remember we (or was it I? ;)) changed them.

You may want to try turning off fast switching in tvh too. However, I'd still recommend you use something other than the Pi if you're planning on multiple clients. That single usb bus is going to struggle.

RE: Tvheadend and Triax Tss 400 setup - Added by Mister Pablo over 7 years ago

Hi Mark,

I did turn them back to see if that had anything to do with it :)
I'm planning on installing tvheadend on a desktop computer to rule out any performance issues.

Kind regards

Hi Mister Pablo,

I've seen you are using a TSS400 together with TVHeadend and a unicable LNB. May I ask: Is it possible to plug-in 4 different unicable LNBs into the TSS400? (one in each RF input)
The idea is that any tuner could tune any transpoder of any satellite.

Thanks!

RE: Tvheadend and Triax Tss 400 setup - Added by Mister Pablo about 7 years ago

Hi Edd Albo,

I have not testet that, but i'm 99% sure that you cannot use it like that.
When using Unicable you have to give it some "Frequency" to use:

So i'm pretty sure you can't use it for multi sats.
But, i have not testet it.

Kind regards

Hi,

this is an already older thread, but I want to write what I have found after two days of searching to solve the same problem, and maybe it will save time to somebody else.

I have compiled the latest GIT version of tvheadend (4.3-1857~g221c29b40) on CentOS/RHEL 8 on an APU2 (pcengines) and tried to connect then to Triax TSS 400, using only one LNB position for Astra 19.2E.

The problem was the same as described above, no chance to scan any MUXes, I have always got the error "mpegts: xxxxxx in DVB-S Network - scan no data, failed".

I have tried to disable the SELinux on CentOS 8, no change, I have tried to compile the earlier versions 4.2.8 and 4.2.7, the result was always the same.

Finally, I have disabled the firewall of the CentOS and that solved the problem. Then I have loged the packets that were blocked and those were UDP packets from the Triax TSS 400.

So enabling IPv4 traffic for the triax SAT>IP server (rich rules: 'rule family="ipv4" source address="TRIAX-IP" accept') solved the problem and all is fine now.

Fantastic, many thanks for that cool software! :)
