Dual tuner configuration
Added by Stefan N. over 7 years ago
Hi folks,
so far I used TVH with a PCTV 461e DVB-S tuner. Version is 4.1.
Today I added a second PCTV 461e USB tuner, it is recognized and shown in TVH admin UI, I enabled it and assigned the same network.
But, I'm not able to watch 2 streams in parallel. The first stream open with the old tuner, and if I want to open another stream with the new tuner, this does not work, the log says:
"No free adapter"
I thought TVH would switch to the 2nd tuner automatically. I probably have an error in my setup, is there anything that must be done or must not be done so that this works fine?
Best regards
Stefan

Both enabled and assigned to the same network.

Sorry yes, I should've seen that in your initial post. Is the device being used by something else at all? What does Stream status show?
RE: Dual tuner configuration - Added by Stefan N. over 7 years ago
Status looks like that:
2nd tuner is not used, but a stream cannot be played.
But I think the config looks a bit strange:
The 2nd tuner is directly located under top level and has different naming while the 1st tuner is named "Universal LBB only" and has an additional layer in the "folder" hierarchy.
I configured TVH with the wizard which only can setup a single tuner, maybe I have to reset TVH and setup everything from scratch?

Yes, something isn't right, they both should look like the second one! What satconf does the first one have set?
Actually, you may want to open a bug on here with this, seems the wizard isn't doing something correctly.

Where do I get that info from? If via SSH/console, where can I check?

DVB-S #0 (the old/first one) looks like that:
The other one does not have a SAT config...?
RE: Dual tuner configuration - Added by Mark Clarkstone over 7 years ago
It doesn't give you the option to even set a satconf?
RE: Dual tuner configuration - Added by Stefan N. over 7 years ago
No that would require the additional entry in the menu hierarchy. The one that is marked in your screenshot on the left and that's missing for the 2nd tuner. And that's probably the root cause for my issue I think.

What does it look like for DVB-S #1. And if it does not have a sat config, how did you assign a network to it???
What does the "Read-only Info" show for each?
Could be a driver issue. What does dmesg show for the two devices?
RE: Dual tuner configuration - Added by Stefan N. over 7 years ago
That's how it looks like for the #1 tuner:
Actually there is no network assigned to it (I just thought so, but it was #0). Network can't be assigned at all, that's the problem.
"dmesg | grep -i usb" does not give me any outut?
Can I reset TVH to factory default by deleting a certain config file or so?

Yes. just stop tvheadend move or delete the contents of /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/ & restart it.

After doing that, I'm now prompted for ACL login credentials, but the old ones do not work. Is there any "deafult" I can use or what do I have to do to be able to open the Web Interface again?

You can edit the /etc/init.d/tvheadend file and add -C to the ARGS variable.
or..
Create the superuser file, restart & login. See Emergency/Backdoor Access.

Now it works! :-) The wizard also correctly recognized the second adapter and sets up everything fine.
Two independent streams are working smoothly on the RPi3.
