Use EPG running state
Added by Ash Guest over 7 years ago
I'm interested in using Use EPG running state, if i understand this correctly it will correct program recording if the program timings change (using OTA EPG service).
so will this increase the time of a program recording for example if a sporting event ran over? does the EPG also get updated? the 10:00 news overan by 20 minutes yesterday - i didnt see any change in the EPG tab of TVheadend. i'm using XMLTV (highest priority) updated twice a day and SKY UK openTV (OTA) (lowest Priority) and have "USE EPG running state checked" for the 4 or 5 channels that i watch the most.
is there anything i am missing?

The EIT Running State is what drives the 'now and next' display on your TV, and is different from the programme guide. I'm only familiar with UK Freeview, but there TVH tunes to the wanted channel 30 seconds before the event is due to start and monitors the Running State; recording starts when the wanted programme becomes the 'now' event and stops when it disappears.
I believe normally for UK Freeview channels the Running Status is derived automatically from the playout centre. For an overrunning live event the operations folks have to manually tweak the timings, and if they get it wrong then the subsequent programme might not be recorded properly.
TVHeadend seems generally to cope with last-minute changes - a couple of times I've seen at the beginning of a recording an apology from the continuity announcer for the late-running of the programme.
