Multiple picons missing after building - UK freeview.

Added by Paul Hey over 7 years ago

I've been tearing my hair out the past few days trying to get channel icons displayed on my Kodi clients, having tried with no luck to use the channel icons with the path file:///, but nothing was being picked up.

I finally bit the bullet and built picons as per the slightly vague instructions - https://github.com/picons/picons-source

I appear to have built pretty much every possible combinations of resolution and background etc, but whichever set extract to home/hts/picons, there are multiple picons missing - mostly from the main channels - BBC1, BBC2 etc. Any other users building picons this way for their freeview channels with success? I don't want to spend ages chasing something which isn't really essential for a functioning system. Lots of the channels now have logos, just not all, so I know that in essence it is working how it should be.

I built using the folder copying method.

What version of tvheadend are you using? If using 4.1.xxxx see the Help as you may need to change the scheme.

Hi Mark, thanks for replying.

I'm using:

HTS Tvheadend 4.0.9-13~g64fec81~trusty

No option for changing the scheme that I can see.

If it's available it'll be in the Config -> General tab.

I haven't used 4.0 in ages so can't remember the options it has.

You may want to give 4.1.xxxx a go though. You can find the debs for trusty here: https://doozer.io/mpmc/tvheadend/build/59

Just make a back up of your current config in case the migration from 4.0 -> 4.1 fails.

sudo cp -rp /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend /home/hts/tvhbackup

Should do it.

I may well try that - my entire server is due to be completely flattened and reborn at some point soon, as at the moment it is running the remnants of mythbuntu 14.04, so I really need to start again from scratch anyhow, so if i all goes wrong it will not be the end of the world...

Hi Paul,

I have exactly the same issue. I have posted a question about this here today.

I've noticed that the services file built as stage 1 in the process is correct in reference to the names shown in TVHeadEnd, but when building the icons, the names of the icon files are slightly different for some of the channels such as BBC2 (as you say).

I notice that it's the transponder part of the name.

So it's not just me then!

I'll let you know if I make any progress... My next step is to look at the script and try to work out how it uses the services file that is built as part of stage 1, but I was trying to avoid that!

I'm using the very latest TVHeadEnd on OpenELEC, so I don't think it's that... Like I say I think it's the build process ignoring what's in the services output file from TVHeadEnd.

Cheers

Will.

Actually, I decided to put LibreELEC on instead (which has a much more up-to-date version of TVHeadEnd). Think it's 4.2. This seems to have more options for Picons on the UI.

It seems to handle picons much better and I can have a directory with the SNP icons and another with SRP icons. It now uses the SRP version if available and use the SNP if not which fixes my issue anyway.

So all looks good now with the new version.

You were right Mark, an update did this. Thanks!

Cheers

Will.

LibreELEC for some reason jumped to calling it version 4.2 (tvheadend42) but it is actually using Tvheadend 4.1 (there is no 4.2 yet...) Maybe they are just preparing for what WILL be the next stable release...
