Features in latest git snapshot vs 2.12

Added by Graham S about 13 years ago

Hi,

First of all thanks for the great software! It really is such an elegant solution compared to some of the other backends I've tested.

I'm interested in the differences between a recent snapshot from the git repository versus the 2.12 release. Arch currently has an up to date AUR packagebuild for the git version, but the 2.12 packagebuild has not been updated since 2010. I'm trying to decide if it's worth trying to maintain the 2.12 script which is currently orphaned.

So in general we can expect improved stability for the 2.12 version versus the git version (do you agree?) but is there anything missing from 2.12 that is useful for the enduser versus the git version? Are there any changes in the recent code that result in any advantages for frontend compatibility for instance?

Thanks!

There has been NO updates to the 2.12 version since it was released. All changes were only applied to the main source tree. So any bugs that are present in 2.12 that are currently solved in the git version will not be automatically also applied to the 2.12 source.

But there is also no garentee that in a change in a future version of the main source tree will no introduce major bugs or even complete instability. For example the proposed changes to the way dvb acapters are handeld might cause some unexpected results while it is being implemented.

So for now, I will keep both versions alive.

Thanks for the reply, I understand your point about any unsolved bugs in the 2.12 source remaining until the next release.

I'm interested in they key differences in terms of features between 2.12 and the git source. For instance, are there any major features that have been implemented in the latest code that are not present in the 2.12 release?
