Problems skipping through HDHR (UK DVB-T2) recordings
Added by James Fry almost 8 years ago
Hi All,
I am a long time (4+ years) TVH user and have been successfully recording UK freeview HD (DVB-T2) using a raspberry pi and nanostick 290e USB tuner. I still have this setup and its working fine.
I also recently build a new VMware box and have tvh (4.1-2400~g9762916~trusty) running on a ubuntu VM.
Since this server is nowhere near an aerial, I picked up a HDHomeRun connect (UK version) in january sales (I think only time I ever saw it discounted).
The new ubuntu tvh and hdhr are all configured up, scanned, channels found, services mapped etc etc.
I can schedule and record no problems.
The problem is when I play back recordings using Kodi Krypton.
I can play back from start, but if I skip forwards (not seek forwards) then Kodi message "Buffering 100%" is shown and the stream never resumes.
This happens when playing back from kodi tvh PVR client and playing back as a video file.
Seeking through the video works well most of the time, but even this seems a bit problematic.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing the issues?
Pretty sure it must be a Kodi/HDHR issue since not having the problem with my RPi/290e setup.
BTW recording profile same for both systems - matroska profile, no transcoding.
Both systems are recording to and playing back from my freeNas NAS (the same directory).
Also BTW the recordings seem to play back fine in other players on my PC (VLC, Win 10 video player), however plex also has issues playing.
Any pointers on what may be the cause? Or how to debug it further myself (will stream errors get logged in a way I could use?)
Thanks all in advance!

I had similar issues when I used VMware, eventually decided to scrap it & run it directly on the machine. If you want to try and debug it, start tvheadend with "--debug all --trace all --logfile /tmp/tvh.log", attempt to play/rw & look at the logs. That should tell you what the problem is.

Thanks for the advice re debug switches.
Actually I took a slightly different approach to troubleshoot.
Since my RPi TVH instance was working well I added the 2 x HDHR tuners to this box also - it it was working perfectly: able to record 3 x HD channels in parallel, plus playback and skipping through recordings working fine in Kodi.
Given this showed no inherent issue with the hdhr, I completely re-installed tvh on the ubuntu VM (inc removing all config) and reinstalled and configured again from scratch.
Now its working fine it seems
TY for the input
