"Audio Only" Stream Profile playing recording includes video.

Added by Obv B almost 8 years ago

I set up a user with a Stream Profile using the built in type "audio" to be able to stream only the audio when bandwidth is an issue and just the audio is good enough for my needs

Using this login from an iPhone using the iPhone app "TvhClient", or using Chrome on a PC, it works exactly as expected when streaming live TV. However, when playing a recorded program, the video get streamed.

The "help" for "Stream Profile" says this ...

"Stream Profiles are the settings for output formats. These are used for Live TV streaming and recordings."

... so it would appear that recordings should work the same as Live TV.

Not sure how to go about figuring out what is going on. I've messed around with all of the options on the user "Access Entry", and made sure that there is no 'default' user that is being accessed.

Any ideas?

Using the latest "[Unofficial] Raspberry Pi / armhf build" 4.1-2332 (https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/21528?r=23596)

I think when it says "These are used for Live TV streaming and recordings." It means for creating recordings, and they are not used for the playback of recordings...

Maybe it should more accurately say, "These are used for Live TV streaming and recording."

Exactly. The only stream profile that is used for a recording is what it was recorded at. There is currently no way to use a separate streaming profile for the playback of a recording.

Thanks for the replies. I think I understand now. Basically the Stream Profiles apply only to the output from the TV tuner, whether it is being streamed live or is recorded to a file, and playback of a recording is simply a piped stream of the file on disk. (No doubt this is a way over-simplified description, but hopefully close enough to explain how Stream Profiles work)

Correct - no previously recorded output is passed to the transcoder at present, it is loaded directly from disk and passed to the client as-is. There's a feature request to pass all content to the transcoder but it will be a long time before we see that.
