You will need to setup a recording profile to transcode the recording on the fly. Or you can add some post-processing commands to transcode the recording once it has completed.

You'll lose some quality, and you'll need a good processor to retain reasonable quality whilst transcoding.

Often the easier option is to buy a larger drive for recordings.

ok thanks,

where I can find a tutorial (process) to do this in tvheadend : "setup a recording profile to transcode the recording on the fly" ?

Under Configuration - Stream - you need to create a av-lib based transcoding profile (Maktrosa or MPEG-TS) with the parameters that you want in terms of resolution and quality.

Under Configuration - Recording - you then need to create a new Digital Video Recording profile and select the stream profile you created above under the "Stream profile" option.

When recording you can select the profile to use. You can also make it the default profile for specific users.
