Recommendation for mini dvb-t tunder which it works with TvHeadend without any problems

Added by Saadulla A almost 8 years ago

Hi,
I'm trying to create a mini IPTV server with the cheapest way only for local network DVB-T channels.
Recently I've bought NooElec NESDR Mini 2 SDR & DVB-T USB Stick (RTL2832 + R820T2) as it's wrote in the description it supports by linux and works to get dvb-t channels on local network.

https://www.amazon.com/NooElec-NESDR-Mini-RTL2832-Antenna/dp/B00P2UOU72/ref=pd_sbs_504_2/168-4178873-5648049?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00P2UOU72&pd_rd_r=V2AYCK6S9NRRS7CMDV3E&pd_rd_w=0aztc&pd_rd_wg=IML3T&psc=1&refRID=V2AYCK6S9NRRS7CMDV3E

But after a long efforts and trying with different ubuntu versions(16.04 , 14.04) / windos softwares(BlazeDTV, BlazeHDTV) / Open topics to ask help (https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/23789) (https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/23795) I't doesn't gave any results.

I've sent an email to nooelec support team trough their website, they said that it must be work with the drivers and BlazeHDTV 6.0 software which is in this iso file: http://f.nooelec.com/TV28Tv2.is after installing drivers and scanning for channels again it doesn't bring any channels.

Now I need a help from you guys, which mini dvb-t tuner is working with TvHeadend perfectly without any problem? it will be better if tested by yourself and successfully works.

Thank you in advance.

I'm surprised that device doesn't work.

For DVB-T I'd just buy any cheap RTL2832/R820T based device.

It should work, I have a few of these myself & they work fine.

Before you buy another device confirm that whatever you're using to receive a signal actually works & don't rely on the tiny aerial that comes with your device as most of the time they're more than useless!

Thank you both for your reply.

Dear Mark, can you tell me with which operating system did you used it and what server?

I've used it with tvheadend on Ubuntu and BlazeHDTV 6.0 on Windows and both did not gave any results.

But also as you said, I will re-check my antenna and signal.

Thank you.

Are you using a proper house DVB-T antenna? Or the supplied mini antenna?

An MCX to Coax/RF adapter is often needed for those tuners if you want to use a normal household type antenna socket.

Just a standard server running Debian & a Raspberry Pi

I've used it with tvheadend on Ubuntu and BlazeHDTV 6.0 on Windows and both did not gave any results.

This does sound a lot like a signal issue.

Thank you.

I've installed Windows XP SP3 to my virtual machine then installed BlazeHDTV 6.0 and It's driver which located here (http://f.nooelec.com/TV28Tv2.iso)
then it worked with a little bit lag in the videos, then now I've assured that the tuner is working without any hardware issues.

After that I've installed a clear new Ubuntu 14.04 which is older than 16.04, and installed TvHeadend with only the following commands without install any drivers or something else(maybe driver installing is not required in ubuntu, but I'm new in ubuntu I haven't much knowledge about it) :

sudo apt install curl
curl http://apt.tvheadend.org/repo.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-add-repository -r http://apt.tvheadend.org/stable
sudo apt-add-repository http://apt.tvheadend.org/unstable
sudo apt update
sudo apt install tvheadend

And again it doesn't gave any results as it's shown below:

I've thinking that this issue may happening because of driver versions.

What would suggesting to do at this step?

Do you think that one of the following Linux distributions would work like Windows xp?

  • Linux Mint
  • Arch Linux
  • Deepin
  • Fedora
  • Debian
  • openSUSE

Thank you.

I've researched on how MCX adapter is works and tried to connect wires manually like the following picture and it was successful:

Wow that's a hatchet job!

Your problem with tvheadend appears to be what you're entering. invalid argument means the one (or more) freq values are wrong.

Edit a mux & show the prompt.

it looks like you're running in a vm I'd suggest trying on hardware instead
