Setting up radio channels on DVB-T in the UK

I have my freeview tuner set up to record TV and that works fine. I'd like to set up the radio channels to record too. I can record, but it produces a .ts file and on playback I get broken up gibberish (mostly muted). Any pointers how to get radio set up and recording please?

I should mention that the stick is working on a Ubuntu headless server running 16.04

How are you trying to play back? The Freeview .ts radio files play back fine in Kodi and VLC.
