Difference between the Play Links

Hey,
can someone explain me the difference between

http://tvh:9981/stream/channel/CHANNELID

and

http://tvh:9981/play/stream/channel/CHANNELID

?

i'm not really sure about it.

One generates a playlist file, hence the /play/ path. The other links directly to the stream. Tvheadend automatically detects certain clients (wget, curl) and will always send the direct stream.
