TVHeadend and HDHomeRun Config
Added by stepher ru about 8 years ago
I admit I didn't search this specific forum directly, tho I believe I've come thru here (and a number of others) via searches :(( So, apologies if this has been handled....and I just haven't found it yet.
Simply, RPI 3, OSMC, TVH and HDHomeRun Connect (dual-tuner).
I can log into TVH config page and set up a network (ATSC) which appears to setup 13 muxes (shows 13 ch/frequencies for SF Bay area). However, nothing shows for TV adapters. I used the hdhomerun_config discover util and returns an 8 char (7 digs, 1 letter) ID number and a valid IP addr which fits into my home network, so the tuner seems to be active and accessible.
I installed (what I believe to be) TVH from Video/add-ons. I also did a separate install (found info in one of the forums, which may possibly have messed things up further). At this point, I'm not sure if I have done serious damage (software/logic-wise) so I could really use some help/guidance/a few head-slapping "D'ohs", maybe. However, fairly frustrated at this point in my progress, tho
Not a noob (not so much, anyway).....
Thanks in advance....

HDHR device support must be compiled in. I am betting that the OSMC build of TVH does not have it enabled. It is a confirgure/compile time option, so you would need to send a message to OSMC developers as they are the ones providing your TVH package.
(Unless I misunderstood, and you have installed TVH in some other manner ... ?)

I appreciate your response. I have never been a fan of "redirection" (as it were), but understand the situation.
I initially installed TVH thru an add-on (Videos/add-ons) in OSMC, but it wasn't clear if it was the "right" TVH add-on to be using. Since it was the only one, well.....I then sought out forum help and did find some postings wrt compiling TVH into the system, but nothing more recent than ~2-3 yrs. I tried one of the tutorials that looked promising, but no change in results.
I'll go focus my efforts over at OSMC and see what I can find out.
Thanks again for the help.

The Video addon is SiliconDust's HDHomeRun View app, which is their own program. That is completely unrelated to TVH and Kodi's Live TV system.
When TVH is built/compiled, there is an option (--enable-hdhomerun-client
, I believe) that will build in support to allow TVH to directly access HDHR tuners, the same way that support for other tuners are built in. For some reason, most distributions tend to not include that feature when they build their packages. (I know it is not enabled on Arch's default, either.)
I am not sure if OSMC is an actual distribution, or if they are similar to Open/LibreELEC where it's not a real operating system. If OSMC is an actual OS and you can install development tools on it, then you can build TVH yourself to ensure you get HDHR support.
Another option is to switch your OS. The RPis that I have running Kodi and the TVH HTSP client all run Arch here, and I rarely have any problems at all.
